Cervical and vaginal metastases from ascending colon cancer: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer commonly metastasizes to the liver and lungs; however, cervical and vaginal involvement is exceedingly rare. This report describes in detail a unique case of cervical and vaginal metastasis of ascending colon cancer. CASE PRESENTATION: A patient presented with vaginal bleeding. Investigations revealed discontinuous malignant lesions in the cervix and vagina. Following a series of examinations, the patient underwent radical cervical and vaginal resection. Pathology confirmed adenocarcinoma, and combined with immunohistochemical results, the cervical and vaginal le

[Genital HPV infection, relation between vulvar and cervico-vaginal localization].

The Authors studied 37 women affected by vulvar condylomatosis. Thirty-four presented features of florid or microflorid condylomatosis, three were affected by flat condylomatosis, Papillomavirus (HPV) infection of the cervico-vaginal tract was present in 25 women. No vulvar cellular atypia was found in the 37 cases with HPV lesions, while in 6 cases there were also cervical dysplasia (CIN 1-CIN 2). Nineteen out of 23 patients with disseminated revealed a vaginal flogosis mostly by yeats, detected by microbiological examinations. The evidence of disseminated florid or microflorid lesions associ

Imaging and Clinical Data of Placental Site Trophoblastic Tumor: A Case Report.

Placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT) is a very rare variant of gestational trophoblastic tumor. It can occur after normal termination of pregnancy or spontaneous abortion and ectopic or molar pregnancy. There is a wide range of clinical manifestations from a benign condition to an aggressive disease with fatal outcome. One of the most important characteristics of PSTT, unlike other forms of gestational trophoblastic diseases (GTD) is the presence of low beta-subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) levels because it is a neoplastic proliferation of intermediate trophoblastic cells.

Paget Disease of the Vulva: Diagnosis by Immunohistochemistry.

The objective of this paper is to report a case of extramammary Paget disease of the vulva, to describe its diagnosis, surgical treatment, and outcome, and to discuss the general characteristics of this pathology. This is a rare neoplasm, found principally in areas in which apocrine and eccrine glands are numerous. This case report is relevant to the literature since the differential diagnosis of extramammary Paget disease is difficult to be done only with the macroscopic appearance of the lesion and even with the microscopic characteristics, requiring further studies, immunohistochemistry, as

Vaginal tubulovillous adenoma: a clinicopathologic and molecular study with review of the literature.

Vaginal villous or tubulovillous adenomas (TVA) are uncommon tumors histologically similar to their intestinal counterparts. After reviewing the literature, we report the eighth case of TVA, which presented as a polypoid tumor in the vagina, at suburethral level, in a 19-yr-old woman with Arnold-Chiari type II malformation and a myelomeningocele at birth. The tumor consisted of long villi lined by columnar cells with brush borders, pseudostratified nuclei, and foci of high-grade atypia. Immunohistochemistry was positive for cytokeratin 7, estrogen and progesterone receptors, CA19.9, p16, p53,

Verrucous carcinoma of the cervix in a case with uterine prolapse.

Verrucous carcinoma of the female tract is rare. We present a case involving association of verrucous carcinoma of the cervix with uterine prolapse. A 86-year-old woman was admitted with postmenopausal vaginal bleeding. The gynecologic examination revealed the uterine prolapse with a exophytic tumorous mass (3 x 6 x 8 cm) on the cervix. A punch biopsy was taken from the tumor, which revealed coilocytotic and mild dysplastic changes in the squamous epithelium; invasion of the underlying stroma could not be evaluated. A cervical swab was tested for human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA using the polyme

Primary relapse of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in a cervical smear: a case report.

Uterine cervix and corpus are rarely the initial site of relapse in leukemia or lymphoma. We report herein a case of uterine cervical relapse with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The patient, a 60-yr-old woman, had a history of ALL that had been in remission for 2 yr after chemotherapy. She presented with a chief complaint of genital bleeding. In a routine cervico-vaginal Papanicolau smear, abundant atypical lymphoid cells with round-to-oval nuclei, scant cytoplasm, and high nuclear to cytoplasmic ratios was observed. The nuclei of these cells had fine and dark chromatin and thicken

Sarcoma botryoides of the cervix. Report of a case with cytopathologic findings.

BACKGROUND: Cytologic findings of sarcoma botryoides were still equivocal because sarcoma botryoides of the uterine cervix is an extremely rare neoplasm, and few cases have been reported to date. CASE: A 17-year-old female was diagnosed with sarcoma botryoides of the uterine cervix. The entire vaginal canal was occupied with polypoid masses, which arose from the anterior lip of the uterine cervix, and the tumor was classified as group I (Intergroup Rhabdomyosarcoma Study). After wedge resection and six courses of combination chemotherapy, the tumor recurred in the same location of the cervix

Evaluation of a microperforate hymen leading to the incidental diagnosis of a borderline ovarian tumour.

Microperforate hymens are rare anatomical variants with an unknown incidence and very few reported cases. Borderline ovarian tumours are similarly uncommon, with an incidence of approximately 0.002%-0.006%. The concurrent presence of a microperforate hymen and a borderline ovarian tumour is therefore exceedingly unique with no documented cases to date. In this report, we review the case of a nulliparous woman in her late 20s who initially presented with an inability to have penetrative intercourse. A subocclusive hymenal variant was noted on examination and further imaging work-up resulted in

Early recurrence of aggressive leiomyosarcoma of the vagina.

Malignant mesenchymal tumors of the female genital tract are uncommon gynecological cancers, particularly in the vagina. They are typically aggressive and often relapse, both locally and at distant sites. The treatment of choice for primary tumors is surgical excision as they are generally refractory to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. We describe the case of a vaginal leiomyosarcoma in a 43-year-old woman who presented with abnormal genital bleeding and discharge. The tumor was excised but recurred locally after just 11 months. It was removed by hysterectomy with double adnexectomy and partial

A Rare Case of Large Left Lateral Wall Vaginal Myoma.

Vaginal leiomyomas are rare, they are uncommon benign tumor with variable clinical presentation. They usually present as a mass per vaginum or dyspareunia or pressure symptoms on the neighbouring structures. We present a case of 47 years lady with mass per vaginum and difficulty in walking and chronic pelvic pain. Her clinical findings suggested a large mass in the left vaginal wall, the mass was approximately 12 x 10 cm in size hindering the visualization of the cervix. Her ultrasonography showed bulky uterus with mass occupying the cervix. This finding was not correlating with the clinical f

A Rare Case of Pediatric Vaginal Yolk Sac Tumor.

A 14-month-old girl was evaluated for intermittent vaginal bleeding. Vaginoscopy revealed a friable tumor, and biopsy results confirmed a yolk sac tumor. Alpha-fetoprotein was elevated (1386 ng/mL) at diagnosis but quickly normalized with chemotherapy. The patient remained tumor-free 12 months after diagnosis without the need for radical surgery. Although rare, malignant tumors of the vagina must be included in the differential diagnosis of prepubertal girls who present with vaginal bleeding. Primary yolk sac tumor of the vagina is seen in girls less than 3 years of age and is treated with che
