Acute dissection of the aorta is a rare disease which, when left untreated, has a disastrous prognosis. Two aetiological factors are essential: acquired or congenital fragility of the aortic elastic tissue, and arterial hypertension. The condition must be diagnosed as early as possible to avoid a fatal outcome: it is a surgical emergency. The clinical diagnosis rests on a history of migrating pain and on the presence of signs of ischaemia in a vascular territory. It is confirmed by complementary investigations, chiefly angiography. Macroscopic features of temporomandibular joints (TMJs) were studied in young adults who comprise the largest portion of individuals seeking TMJ treatment. Deviation in form (DIF), arthrosis, size, shape and disc displacement were evaluated on ninety-five autopsied TMJs. Few TMJs (13%, 12/95) showed no intracapsular changes. Brain tumors were found in 42 mice from a total study population of 77,410 mice, which included several strains (BALB/c, C3H, C57BL/6, and hybrids of these strains). The brain tumors were classified on the basis of the new World Health Organization classification of human brain tumors. Attempts to classify drug addicts are divided into three main groups: (1) psychiatric classifications, (2) psychosocial classifications, and (3) classifications by pattern of abuse. Eighty-four articular fractures of the lower end of the tibia were reviewed. One third were compound and three out of four were comminuted. Seventy-three cases were treated by internal fixation. The results were satisfactory in about half of the cases. In eight severe sepsis was found and had to be treated by arthrodesis. In 80 cases reviewed, a satisfactory reduction was obtained in only 52 cases. A classification into three types is proposed.
