Compliance is an important reason for poor response. Inappropriate therapy is another common reason. BACKGROUND: Closed-suction drains, implants, and acellular dermal matrix (ADM) are routinely used in tissue expander-based immediate breast reconstruction (TE-IBR). Each of these factors is thought to increase the potential for surgical site infection (SSI). We report a 60-year-old woman who presented with orbital cellulitis, restricted ocular motility, proptosis, and visual acuity of counting fingers in her left eye 3 days after strabismus surgery. METHODS: A physician's transfer records of patients cared for and or transferred from the 31st and 86th Combat Support Hospitals during Operation Iraqi Freedom between September 2004 and March 2005 were reviewed. OBJECTIVES: We compared clinical long-term course and outcome in all AIDS patients admitted to our outpatient department from January, 1989 to June, 1998 with toxoplasma encephalitis (TE) as first AIDS-defining infection (n= 106) and in 106 patients with Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) as first AIDS-defining disease.
