Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, hypnagogic hallucinations, and sleep-onset rapid eye movement (REM) sleep periods. It is now identified as a neurodegenerative disease because there is a massive loss of specific neurons in the brain. BACKGROUND: There is scarcity of knowledge about the development of gallbladder cancer.
AIM: To study the features of development and progression of gallbladder cancer.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Review of histopathological studies of gallbladder obtained in 25,971 cholecytectomies performed in patients aged 45+/- 16 years, 79% females, between 1993 and 2004. Among these, 210 had a dysplasia not associated to cancer and 1,039 had a gallbladder cancer Clinical and morphological parameters of preneoplastic and neoplastic lesions were analyzed. Ninety five percent of patients were followed.

Osteonecrosis of the jaw associated to biphosphonate use is more common in cancer patients with bone metastases, that are using intravenous diphosphonates. When these drugs are used orally the risk of the complication is lower. We report 3 diabetic women aged 69, 76 and 82 years, receiving alendronate 70 mg every one week. The unveiling event was the extraction of several teeth without the use of antibiotics. All had bone pain, purulent discharge, loss of bone and halitosis. All improved five months after discontinuing alendronate.

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm of the pancreas is characterized by a dilatation of the main pancreatic duct and/or secondary ducts, mucin production and the absence of ovarian-like struma. The symptoms are non-specific and often the diagnosis is incidental. The treatment of choice is surgery, since these tumors may become malignant. The prognosis depends on the type of lesion, whether the excision is complete and lymph node involvement. The aim of this review is to analyze the clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic and pathological characteristics of this disease.

BACKGROUND: The use of a dye and radiocolloid to detect sentinel lymph nodes in breast cancer increases the detection rates. However the use of either method alone does not modify the false negative rate. Therefore there is no formal contraindication for the exclusive use of dye to detect nodes.
AIM: To report a prospective analysis of the exclusive blue dye technique for sentinel node biopsy in patients with early breast cancer.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We analyzed the first 100 women with pathologically proven breast cancer who met the inclusion criteria. Patent blue dye was used as colorant.
