Previous research employing biomechanical measurement has demonstrated asymmetries in kinematics and kinetics. Similar asymmetries have been reported from anthropometric studies. These findings suggest that asymmetry may play an important aetiological role in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). The article examines the biomechanical etiology of so-called idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). It describes I-st, II-nd and III-rd etiopathological groups (epg) of spine deformity which were developed during the years 2001/2004/2005. All children with so-called idiopathic scoliosis had an abduction contracture of the right hip, often connected with a flexion and external rotation contracture. Health care inequities continue to plague African Americans. For African American cancer patients these inequities include access to health care, availability of treatment modalities, support groups, and participation in nursing cancer research. A support group setting is better for recruitment than a clinical setting. Referrals to the researcher from individuals who personally know the African American cancer patients generated the best response rates. If the researcher has no previous connection with the potential participant, interest in the study may be generated but recruitment is minimal

The present study examined the performance of a surgical procedure under simulated combat conditions. Eleven residents performed a cricothyroidotomy on a mannequin-based simulator in a fully immersive virtual environment running a combat simulation with a virtual sniper under both day and night time lighting conditions. This paper presents mu grid, a light weight middleware for grid applications, and focuses mainly on security issues--more specifically on the access control to resources--that are critical for the gridification of many medical applications. For this purpose, we use Sygn as a distributed, certificate based, and flexible access control mechanism, which has been fully integrated in mu grid. We discuss the advantages of the solution compared to classical grid approaches and the limitations of the final architecture.

A dynamic decision analytic framework using local statistics and expert's opinions is put to study the cost-effectiveness of colorectal cancer screening strategies in Singapore. It is demonstrated that any of the screening strategies, if implemented, would increase the life expectancy of the population of 50 to 70 years old.
