Re-reattachment of a fractured maxillary central incisor: a case study.

There has been a rise in incidence of dental trauma and crown fractures as reported in the literature. Children and teenagers are the most affected age groups, and the maxillary central incisors are the teeth most often affected. This article discusses reattachment techniques for the restoration of fractured teeth when the tooth fragment is recovered after a traumatic dental injury. This particular case study reports re-reattachment of a previously fractured and reattached tooth fragment.

[New options for helicobacter pylori antibiotic treatment].

Helicobacter plays a central role in the pathogenesis of several gastric diseases and its eradication has a therapeutic or prophylactic effect in many clinical situations. However, treatment of Helicobacter infection can be challenging and the frequently recommended clarithromycin based triple therapy fails in more than 20% of patients. Reasons for treatment failure include antibiotic resistances and bacterial persistence in an acidic stomach, for instance due to rapid metabolization of the proton pump inhibitor by the host. Therapeutic efficiency can be improved by a therapy tailored for an i

Right ventricular dysfunction and adverse outcome in patients with advanced heart failure.

BACKGROUND: In patients with heart failure (HF) from left ventricular systolic dysfunction, the presence of coexistent right ventricular (RV) dysfunction is associated with poor exercise capacity and reduced survival. We sought to determine whether a simple measure of RV function, the RV myocardial performance index (RV MPI), is associated with adverse outcome in a population of advanced heart failure patients selected to receive cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). METHODS AND RESULTS: The RV MPI was measured on 77 consecutive preimplantation echocardiograms. The relationship between RV

Preliminary results of endovascular stent-assisted angioplasty for symptomatic middle cerebral artery stenosis.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Stent placement for intracranial atherosclerosis has become an alternative treatment technique; however, stent placement for middle cerebral artery (MCA) stenosis remains a technical and clinical challenge. Our purpose was to assess the feasibility, safety, and effectiveness of stent placement for MCA stenosis. METHODS: Between May 1998 and August 2003, we performed stent placement for MCA stenosis (more than 50%) in 17 patients and retrospectively analyzed the technical success rate, complications, and outcomes over 10 months. RESULTS: Stent placement was technically

13C-urea breath test for success of Helicobacter pylori eradication: study of 5885 Israeli patients.

Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection is highly prevalent in many countries and may cause gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer, and lymphoma. Successful eradication depends on the specific treatment used, patient compliance, and Hp antibiotic resistance. The primary aim was to characterize groups of patients with one or more failures of Hp eradication treatment. The secondary aim was to evaluate the factors that influence eradication failure. Between April 1, 1998, and December 31, 2001, 5885 patients were studied for the success of Hp eradication with the 13C-urea breath test (13C-UBT

Outcomes in children receiving single-fraction Gamma Knife radiosurgery for arteriovenous malformation.

INTRODUCTION: Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is used for arteriovenous malformations (AVM), but the risk for secondary malignancy (SM), radiation necrosis (RN), obliteration rates (ObR), and late neurologic toxicities in pediatric patients is not well defined. To address this, we reviewed our two-decade-long institutional experience treating pediatric AVMs with SRS. METHODS: Retrospective review of patients receiving single-fraction SRS for AVM between 1/2006 and 12/2023. ObR and RN were determined on neuroimaging, and toxicities by clinical evaluation. Overall follow-up was 56 months (range

Screening for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Recurrence After Liver Transplantation: Prospective Validation of Binary Criteria.

BACKGROUND: Many centers screen all recipients for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence after liver transplantation (LT). This approach may add substantial burdens of cost, incidental findings, and, depending on the imaging modality, radiation and/or contrast-induced complications. We created simple criteria to help clinicians identify low-risk patients in whom post-LT surveillance offers marginal utility. METHODS: Criteria were developed retrospectively using adults with HCC who underwent LT at the University of Cincinnati from 2000 to 2014. Low-risk patients had none of the following a
