Primary and secondary vasculitis of the lung - critical evaluation of the update classification.

Vasculitis in the lung can be separated into infectious and non-infectious, and in systemic and localized ones. Three major categories in the lung are known, previously named Wegener's granulomatosis, Churg-Strauss syndrome, and microscopic polyangiitis. The classification of vasculitis was proposed in 1994, including a size distribution for each type, an antinuclear and anticytoplasmic antibody profile (ANCA), and an organ location. In an updated classification (2011) the names for two of the most common primary vasculitis were replaced: Wegener`s granulomatosis by Granulomatosis with polyang…

Redefining Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: New Phenotypic Classifications and Implications.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex disorder resulting from the interaction of susceptibility genes with environmental factors. Current diagnostic criteria were established by expert consensus. Genome-wide association studies have shown that the phenotypes defined by these criteria share similar genetic architectures and do not reflect meaningful biological differences. Many complex disorders are defined by criteria designed to accommodate phenotypic diversity, yet such criteria often group the convergent expression of multiple genetic etiologies under a single clinical diagnosis. An optimized ensemble learning model for interpretable and efficient obesity classification.

Obesity is a major health challenge resulting from the interaction of genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors. In recent years, several conventional statistical, mathematical methods, and machine learning techniques have been proposed for obesity classification and have generated encouraging results. However, their performance is not ideal, and more work is needed in the field. This study proposes an optimized stacking machine learning classifier (SMLC) for obesity classification. The SMLC model intelligently combines a meta-heuristic model, machine learning models, and deep learning to…

CellTune: an integrative software for accurate cell classification in spatial proteomics.

Spatial proteomics measures multiple proteins in situ, capturing tissue complexity. However, cell classification in densely packed tissues remains challenging because of the lack of efficient classification algorithms, annotation tools and high-quality labeled datasets to benchmark computational methods. We introduce CellTune, an integrated software for analysis of large spatial proteomics datasets, which streamlines precise cell classification through an optimized human-in-the-loop active learning workflow. It advances core capabilities for analysis of large datasets with an intuitive and cod…

Scalable Density-Based Local and Global Classifications of Noncovalent Interactions.

Noncovalent interactions play a central role in chemistry, biology, and materials science, governing processes ranging from molecular recognition and protein folding to crystal packing and supramolecular assembly. The rational design of these interactions relies on principles such as directionality and complementarity, which control the organization and stability of molecular complexes. Although energetic decomposition analyses can provide insight into these features, their computational cost limits their application to large-scale systems. Here, we introduce a simple density-based descriptor,

The classification of walking and phases of gait using EEG: a scoping review.

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) have the potential to optimise robotic-assisted gait rehabilitation by closing the loop between user and device. Developing such systems requires reliable methods for classifying walking and its component phases to enable real-time feedback. However, research into electroencephalography (EEG)-based gait classification remains limited, with no consensus on optimal methodological or classification approaches. This scoping review aimed to identify (i) gait states and phases classified to date, (ii) methodological processes employed in gait and gait phase classific…

Ancillary Studies in the Diagnosis and Classification of Barrett Esophagus: What's on the Menu?

Barrett's esophagus confers an increased risk for esophageal adenocarcinoma. Accurate detection and risk stratification of patients with Barrett's esophagus presents certain challenges. Current paradigms rely on endoscopic examination and histologic diagnosis in forceps biopsies, but this approach is limited by sampling error and interobserver variability. A variety of ancillary studies have been developed to attempt to address these limitations. These techniques employ alternative sampling strategies and/or detection of molecular and protein-level alterations associated with neoplastic progre

Proprioceptive Terrain Classification for Hexapod Robots with Statistical and Spectral Features.

Terrain types significantly affect the dynamics and locomotion performance of hexapod robots during walking. Terrain classification is a key solution to modify gait patterns in different terrains and recognize hazardous conditions. Perceiving the terrain with proprioceptive sensing is a robust and reliable approach in extreme conditions. In this paper, an efficient terrain classification approach for a hexapod robot is proposed. The proposed method combines a deep classification framework including the long short-term memory (LSTM) network and an effective statistical feature extraction. Propr…

HF Radar Signatures and Their Use for Target Classification, Recognition and Identification.

The challenging goal of equipping HF radars with a target classification ability has been pursued for many years, yet no satisfactory system-level methodology has been reported. This shortcoming severely limits the utility of radar information as, without knowing the nature of detected objects, there is little prospect of understanding the situation and tailoring a suitable response. In this paper, we present a framework within which a comprehensive approach to target characterization can be formulated. We proceed to explore a wide range of physical mechanisms whereby target information is imp…

Classification and correlation signatures of chiral spin liquids on the pyrochlore lattice.

We present a systematic classification and variational study of chiral quantum spin liquids on the pyrochlore lattice based on fermionic parton constructions. Focusing on chiralandspin-liquidAnsätze, we characterize their symmetry properties, flux structures, and low-energy spinon spectra within a projective symmetry group framework, and incorporate gauge fluctuations through Gutzwiller-projected wave functions studied by variational Monte Carlo. From the equal-time spin structure factor, we develop correlation-based diagnostics that distinguish gauge-dominated Coulomb phases from states with …
