BACKGROUND: In patients with reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA), the relationship between the patient's body size and implant size is important for postoperative shoulder function. Asian patients, who have a short stature, could find the conventional RSA implant too big and tight. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcomes after RSA in Asian patients using a new implant designed to fit the body size of Asian patients. We also aimed to compare these outcomes with those who received a conventional implant.
METHODS: This prospective study enrolled 120 patients who under

INTRODUCTION: During clinical practice, physicians need to have a sound knowledge of vascular and nerve variations in the body. Patients presenting with various clinical signs and symptoms need to be thoroughly investigated with anatomic variations in mind to prevent misdiagnosis. Most nerve variations are related to their formation or their course and are frequently associated with the variability of structures that surround them. These structures most commonly include blood vessels, ligaments, and muscles. Such variations should be foremost in a physician's mind when analyzing clinical sympt

BACKGROUND: Severe posterior glenoid bone loss with glenohumeral osteoarthritis with an intact rotator cuff can be managed with reverse shoulder arthroplasty but requires lateralization and version correction to avoid potential complications, such as instability, notching and implant failure. Angled bone grafting with humeral head autograft can provide durable glenoid bone stock, but results have been mixed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate patient-reported and objective outcomes as well as complication and failure rates for patients who underwent angled humeral head autografting for

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of failed reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) is increasing. This can often present a challenging clinical situation with substantial bone loss and limited reconstruction options. This study reports a single tertiary referral center's experience with revision of failed rTSA managed with revision rTSA of bone-interfacing components.
METHODS: After institutional review board approval, all revision shoulder arthroplasty cases performed at a single institution between 2012 and 2020 were reviewed. Cases in which rTSA was revised to a new rTSA construct with revisi

CONTEXT: Ulnar nerve entrapment is a relatively common entrapment syndrome second only in prevalence to carpal tunnel syndrome. The potential anatomic locations for entrapment include the brachial plexus, cubital tunnel, and Guyon's canal. Ulnar nerve entrapment is more so prevalent in pregnancy, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and patients with occupations involving periods of prolonged elbow flexion and/or wrist dorsiflexion. Cyclists are particularly at risk of Guyon's canal neuropathy. Patients typically present with sensory deficits of the palmar aspect of the fourth and fifth digits, fol

BACKGROUND: The optimal implant selection for patients with rotator cuff-intact primary glenohumeral osteoarthritis remains controversial, particularly with respect to patient age. Although reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) has been increasingly utilized in older patients, it is unclear whether chronological age alone modifies the relative effectiveness of anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA) versus rTSA when baseline characteristics are adequately controlled.
METHODS: This retrospective comparative study included patients with rotator cuff-intact primary glenohumeral osteoart

BACKGROUND: Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) is effective in treating massive irreparable rotator cuff tears (mRCT) and cuff tear arthropathy (CTA); however, improving internal rotation (IR) remains challenging. Tendon transfers have been introduced to improve active IR alongside rTSA, yet no clinical studies have compared their effectiveness. This study compares the clinical efficacy of rTSA combined with latissimus dorsi and teres major (LDTM) and pectoralis major (PM) transfers in improving IR in patients with mRCT and CTA who have a loss of active IR.

BACKGROUND: Despite an established increased fracture risk in eating disorder patients, no studies, to our knowledge, have investigated the association between eating disorders and upper extremity soft tissue injury or surgery incidence. Given the association of eating disorders with nutritional deficiency and musculoskeletal sequelae, we hypothesized that patients with eating disorders would have an increased risk of soft tissue injury and surgery. The aim of this study was to elucidate this link and investigate if these incidences are increased in patients with eating disorders.

BACKGROUND: To date, a limited number of studies report mid- to long-term outcomes of press-fit short stem shoulder arthroplasty. The purpose of this study was to report and analyze mid- to long-term outcomes in a series of patients that received press-fit short stem reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA). The hypothesis was that press-fit short stem RSA would be a safe and effective treatment with satisfactory mid- to long-term outcomes.
METHODS: The authors retrospectively reviewed the records of 60 patients that received RSA using press-fit uncemented short humeral stems by two surgeons betwe

BACKGROUND: Throwing athletes with ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injury and symptomatic valgus instability can expect to return to the same or higher level of play. Reconstruction with tendon graft is the dominant method of surgical treatment. Recent evidence suggests that spanning the joint with a suture anchored on both sides is biomechanically equivalent to reconstruction, with faster time to return to play. The authors developed a hybrid UCL reconstruction technique augmented with a suture brace to improve joint stability.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to biomechanic
