AugGCL: Multimodal graph learning for spatial transcriptomics analysis with enhanced gene and morphological data.

Spatial transcriptomics enables the measurement of gene expression in intact tissues. Despite this, reconstructing anatomically accurate spatial domains remains challenging, primarily due to expression sparsity, complex tissue architecture that is characterized by sharp boundaries and long-range continuity, and weak spatial signals. Traditional pipelines typically rely on expression-driven clustering and spatial smoothing, which underperform at boundaries and in sparse regions while neglecting morphological information. To address these challenges, AugGCL is proposed, an augmented graph-convol

Multimodal skin care system using combined image and impedance-based diagnostics.

This study presents the development of a low-cost, portable device for non-invasive skin monitoring that integrates both impedance sensing and imaging modalities to assess skin moisture levels and classify skin types. To enable real-time analysis on resource-constrained platforms, lightweight machine learning algorithms were employed for both regression and classification tasks. For the moisture prediction task, experimental results demonstrate that the Random Forest (RF) algorithm outperformed Linear Regression and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), achieving the highest accuracy, with impedance-ba

An ensemble of deep learning models with falcon optimization assisted diabetic retinopathy diagnosis on retinal fundus images.

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a prominent results of diabetes mellitus that causes abnormalities lesions in retina. If not identified at early, it may progress to complete loss of vision. Unfortunately, DR is an irreversible, and treatment only sustains existing vision. Timely detection and accurate treatment of DR can considerably decrease the chance of blindness. Manual diagnosis of DR in retinal fundus images (RFIs) by ophthalmologist is time consuming, costly and laborious tasks with a higher risk of misdiagnosis. Recently, Deep learning (DL) has gained popularity and shown remarkable perfo

Wheelchair movement signal classification from EEG for motor-impaired individuals using novel deep learning architecture.

Purpose: Traditional wheelchair controls often limit independence and pose safety risks for motor-impaired users. To address these challenges, this study explores the potential of EEG-based control systems that allow users to operate powered wheelchairs through brain signals rather than physical movements. Materials and Methods: We developed a hybrid deep learning model that integrates Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and 1D-Convolutional Neural Networks (1D-CNN) with skip connections to capture both temporal and spatial EEG signal features. The model was trained and evaluated on a public EEG dat

Simulation-driven deep learning for the diagnosis of middle ear pathologies using wideband acoustic immittance.

Wideband acoustic immittance (WAI) provides comprehensive frequency-dependent information for diagnosing middle ear pathologies. However, the scarcity of clinical data and complex response patterns significantly hinder automated diagnosis, particularly in data-limited scenarios. To address this issue, this study proposes a simulation-driven computer-aided diagnosis framework for WAI based on finite element (FE) modeling. Latin hypercube sampling was employed to systematically perturb key physiological parameters of the human ear FE models, generating a standardized virtual WAI dataset comprisi

A novel method for screening diabetic peripheral neuropathy using fused surface electromyogram signal and mechanomyography signal.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes peripheral neuropathy (DPN), one of the most common complications in people with diabetes, can seriously undermine their quality of life. Early detection and treatment of DPN is of great significance to the diabetes population. Nerve conduction studies, the gold standard for diagnosing DPN, causes substantial discomfort for people and requires specialized personnel and expensive equipment, making it challenging to implement as a mass screening tool for DPN. METHODS: Here, a novel, non-invasive and convenient screening method for DPN is proposed. In the proposed method, su

Unsupervised Test-Time Adaptation for Hepatic Steatosis Grading Using Ultrasound B-Mode Images.

Ultrasound (US) is considered a key modality for the clinical assessment of hepatic steatosis (i.e., fatty liver) due to its noninvasiveness and availability. Deep learning methods have attracted considerable interest in this field, as they are capable of learning patterns in a collection of images and achieve clinically comparable levels of accuracy in steatosis grading. However, variations in patient populations, acquisition protocols, equipment, and operator expertise across clinical sites can introduce domain shifts that reduce model performance when applied outside the original training s

A Dynamic Model for Early Prediction of Alzheimer's Disease by Leveraging Graph Convolutional Networks and Tensor Algebra.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurocognitive disorder that deteriorates memory and impairs cognitive functions. Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is generally considered as an intermediate phase between normal cognitive aging and more severe conditions such as AD. Although not all individuals with MCI will develop AD, they are at an increased risk of developing AD. Diagnosing AD once strong symptoms are already present is of limited value, as AD leads to irreversible cognitive decline and brain damage. Thus, it is crucial to develop methods for the early prediction of AD in individuals with MCI.

FAUDA-Net: Frequency-aware unsupervised domain adaptation network for multimodal medical image segmentation.

Unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) has achieved notable advances in medical image segmentation. However, the significant domain shifts between source and target data continue to pose fundamental challenges, driving an urgent demand for more robust cross-domain solutions. Current UDA methods often rely on static spatial alignment strategies that ignore the dynamic evolution of feature distributions during training, often resulting in blurred boundary delineation and loss of structural details. To address these issues, we propose a frequency-aware unsupervised domain adaptation network (FAUDA-

BACKGROUND: Childhood-onset chronic nonbacterial osteomyelitis (CNO) is an inflammatory bone disease that has become better defined in the last 2 decades and is frequently encountered in pediatric rheumatology. As the disease is still not well known and is often confused with malignancy and growth pains, it can easily be missed in clinical practice. We aimed to develop and evaluate a computer-aided, physician-friendly model for detecting CNO using closed-loop artificial intelligence (AI). METHODS: Python software language, TensorFlow AI library, and Recurrent Neural Network were used to devel

AI-assisted preoperative surgical planning for dental implant.

BACKGROUND: An accurate preoperative assessment of alveolar bone morphology is essential to the success of dental implant surgery. Although Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) provides high-resolution volumetric imaging for this purpose, interpreting it requires substantial expertise and remains inherently subjective. Integrating artificial intelligence (AI), specifically three-dimensional convolutional neural networks (3D-CNNs), could automate and standardize CBCT interpretation. However, there has been no systematic development of AI-driven preoperative tools capable of objectively predicti
