When a renal mass is suspected, conventional ultrasound and color Doppler imaging are often used for initial assessment. Ultrasound screening has many advantages over contrast-enhanced CT and MRI, such as accessibility, low costs, and no need for intravenous iodine contrast administration or ionizing radiation. Sonography is very helpful to distinguish cystic from solid lesions and to monitor the growth and structural pattern of cysts. Detection of small renal carcinoma of less than 3 cm in diameter is limited, however, and small tumors are detected by conventional ultrasound only in 67-79% of

BACKGROUND: Angiomatous nasal polyps (ANPs), also known as angiectatic polyps, have rarely been reported in the literature. ANPs are characterized by extensive vascular proliferation and ectasia. ANPs can grow rapidly and exhibit aggressive clinical behavior that could simulate malignancy preoperatively, and they are easily confused with other diseases. In the present study, we analyzed the correlation between the computed tomography (CT) findings of nasal angiomatous polyps and their pathological features.
METHODS: We evaluated CT findings and pathological features of 31 surgically proven AN

HISTORY AND CLINICAL FINDINGS: A 42-year-old man was admitted for treatment of peripheral vascular disease in the left leg (stage III of Fontaine). A year before he had undergone a right aortofemoral bypass operation. On admission there was stenosis of the left pelvic axis and bilateral femoral artery occlusion. In addition there were changes in the skin with abnormal folds, loss of elasticity and yellowish spots over the sides of the neck and the flexor surfaces of all large joints. In addition vision in the left eye was impaired. These findings suggested connective tissue disease involving t

AIMS: Macrocalcification and microcalcification present different clinical risks, but the regulatory of their formation was unclear. Therefore, this study explored the underlying mechanisms of macrocalcification and microcalcification in diabetes mellitus.
METHODS: Anterior tibial arteries of amputated diabetic feet were collected. According to the calcium content, patients were divided into less-calcification group and more-calcification group. And calcification morphology in plaques was observed. For further study, an in vivo mouse diabetic atherosclerosis model and an in vitro primary mous

OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the incidence and clinical relevance of the slow-flow phenomenon after infrapopliteal balloon angioplasty.
METHODS: This retrospective, single-center study included 161 consecutive patients with critical limb ischemia (173 limbs) who underwent endovascular treatment for infrapopliteal lesions between January 2012 and May 2015. The overall technical success rate was 88%. Of these lesions, 30 limbs presented with slow flow after angioplasty.
RESULTS: Total occlusion (90% vs 63%; P < .01) and severe calcification (43% vs 8%; P < .01) were more common in the sl

BACKGROUND: The use of directional atherectomy (DA) for the treatment of calcified femoro-popliteal lesions seems to improve the acute procedural success, however without reducing the long term restenosis rate. Drug coated balloons (DCB) reduced restenosis rate in non heavy calcified lesions. Aim of this study was to demonstrate safety and efficacy of a combined endovascular approach using DA and DCB for the treatment of heavy calcified lesions of the femoro-popliteal tract.
METHODS: From January 2010 to November 2010, 240 patients underwent PTA of the femoro-popliteal tract in our institutio

Background: Bicuspid aortic valve disease (BAVD) is the most frequent congenital heart disease, occurring either as an isolated lesion or in association with other congenital cardiovascular malformations, with variable patterns of progression and risk of valvular and vascular complications. Studies addressing pediatric bicuspid aortopathy are still in their infancy. This narrative review aims to provide a comprehensive perspective on the current scientific evidence regarding BAVD-associated aortopathy in pediatric patients, underscoring multiple challenges in initial diagnosis, long-term surve

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: People living with HIV (PLWH) are increasingly at risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) due to chronic inflammation, metabolic dysregulation, and long-term antiretroviral therapy (ART). However, limited data exist regarding coronary anatomy and long-term outcomes in PLWH with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), particularly in Chinese populations. This study aimed to compare coronary angiographic characteristics, metabolic-inflammatory profiles, and 2-year prognosis between PLWH and HIV-uninfected patients with ACS.
METHODS: We conducted a single-center observational coh

BACKGROUND: Lymphatic malformations are rare benign congenital anomalies of the lymphatic system, most commonly affecting the head and neck. Gastrointestinal involvement is uncommon, and lymphatic malformations of the small intestine are particularly rare. Microcystic lymphatic malformations infiltrating the bowel wall may present with nonspecific clinical and radiological features, making preoperative diagnosis challenging. Reporting such cases is important to raise awareness of this rare entity as a potential cause of acute abdominal pain in children.

This study aimed to investigate the histopathological changes associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection in placentas. A case series of anatomopathological analysis was conducted on the placentas of pregnant women with SARS-CoV-2 who delivered between March and December 2020 at Santo Amaro Hospital (HSA) in Salvador, Brazil. Out of the 29 placentas examined, the median weight was 423.0 (IQR: 385.0-521.0) g. Among them, 58.3% (n = 14) had inadequate weight relative to the newborn's weight. The histopathological findings revealed that 86.2% (n = 25) of the placentas had poorly defined lobes, and the f

BACKGROUND: Previous studies reported that magnesium deficiency was associated with vascular calcifications, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease, which might play an independent pathogenic role in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. However, the results of these studies were somewhat underpowered and inconclusive.
METHODS: Literature was identified by searching PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL). We included studies that investigated the association between serum magnesium with mortality …
