Twenty-one female rabbits underwent laparotomy and a standardized injury was produced on the right uterine horn and Fallopian tube. Following the injury eight animals were used as controls and thirteen were injected intrapertoneally with 50 ml. of 32 per cent dextran 70. Six weeks later the animals were killed and the adhesions graded. All control animals had dense adhersions of the injured areas to bowel or peritoneum. This article summarizes the pathogenesis of ovarian carcinoma, focusing on the paradox of high-grade serous carcinogenesis. The fallopian tube is the prime site of origin in early serous cancers. Because a subset of serous cancers is associated with early serous proliferations absent intramucosal carcinomas, "precursor escape" is emerging, whereby some advanced cancers trace their roots to early serous proliferations. We report a case of a purulent mesenteric cyst, histologically a cystic lymphangioma, w which developed in a 1-year-old girl who presented with marked abdominal distension and high fever. Fallopian tube segments were removed from 20 women undergoing sterilization by laparoscopy or laparotomy. Ten of these patients used an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD). The other 10 had used neither IUCD nor oral contraceptives and served as controls. The ciliary ultrastructure was examined by light- and transmission electron microscopy. In order to define the problems in the interpretation of peritoneal washing cytology specimens, 149 benign cases were examined retrospectively and the cytologies compared with the correlating histologies. There were problems in the cytologic interpretation on blind review in 18 cases (12.1%).
