A new approach for the implementation of ergonomics in sonography to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders (ErgoSon).

BACKGROUND: A substantial body of research has documented a high prevalence of neck, shoulder, wrist, and back pain among sonography users. However, the specific postures that contribute to these complaints have scarcely been systematically investigated, to date. This proposed study offers a novel method to record users' body posture during sonography examinations kinematically and to survey the complaints of sonography users in various specialities. Using this data, well-founded ergonomic recommendations for the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) will be developed.

Development of a quantitative assessment for abnormal flexor synergy index in patients with stroke: a validity and responsiveness study.

BACKGROUND: Arm-lifting movements (shoulder flexion) are essential for upper extremity rehabilitation after a stroke. Abnormal flexor synergy (elbow flexion) is frequently observed during shoulder flexion, impeding functional improvement. However, no quantitative method exists for assessing abnormal flexor synergy. This study investigated the validity and responsiveness of a newly developed index to quantitatively evaluate abnormal flexor synergy. METHODS: Participants included 103 patients (mean age: 58.0 ± 10.1 years; 64 men, 39 women) with stroke. Using three-dimensional coordinate data du

Finger-Floor Distance Is Not a Valid Parameter for the Assessment of Lumbar Mobility.

Low back pain (LBP) could be associated with a reduced lumbar mobility. For the evaluation of lumbar flexibility, parameters such as finger-floor distance (FFD) are historically established. However, the extent of the correlation of FFD to lumbar flexibility or other involved joint kinematics such as pelvic motion, as well as the influence of LBP, is not yet known. We conducted a prospective cross-sectional observation study with 523 participants included (167 with LBP > 12 weeks, 356 asymptomatic). LBP-participants were matched for sex, age, height, and body-mass-index with an asymptomatic co

Validity and Reliability of the Thumb Grasp and Pinch Assessment for Children After Reconstruction of Congenital Hypoplastic Thumbs.

PURPOSE: The Thumb Grasp and Pinch Assessment (T-GAP) is a new instrument for evaluating thumb use in children with congenital hypoplastic thumbs. The assessors video-record the children while they perform nine specific activities and score their grasp types using T-GAP. A high T-GAP score indicates more mature grasp patterns. The developers reported the instrument's validity and reliability for index finger pollicization. This study investigated T-GAP's validity and reliability in children with reconstructed hypoplastic thumbs. METHODS: Four hand surgeons and two hand therapists from two hos

Synergistic and Hepatoprotective Effect of Total Glucosides of Paeony on Ankylosing Spondylitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

The objective of this systematic review was to conduct a meta-analysis of the efficacy and safety of total glucosides of paeony (TGP) for the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). TGP is commonly applied as a complementary medicine, especially in combination with disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and/or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to treat AS in China. Nevertheless, the efficacy and safety of TGP combination treatment still needs more validation. A systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, the Cochrane library, Clinical

Reversed vascularized second metatarsal flap for reconstruction of Manske type IIIB and IV thumb hypoplasia with reduced donor site morbidity.

BACKGROUND: The predominant method for Manske type IIIB and IV thumb hypoplasia is pollicization. However, for those who are not willing to sacrifice the index finger, a method that could reconstruct a functionally capable and aesthetically acceptable thumb remains desirable. This study aimed to investigate and assess the functional and radiographic outcomes of utilizing a reversed vascularized second metatarsal composite flap for thumb reconstruction as a new alternative. METHODS: From May 2014 to January 2017, 15 patients with Manske type IIIB or IV thumb hypoplasia who were admitted to the

One-step 3D shrinking method to prepare robust and multifunctional flexible strain sensor with brain cortex-like wrinkled structured.

At the current stage of rapid development in flexible electronics technology, flexible strain sensors face the challenge of integrating multiple functions while maintaining high sensitivity, a wide strain response range, and stable sensing performance in complex and harsh environments. In response to this challenge, we propose a facile and transfer-free one-step 3D-shrinking approach inspired by the wrinkled structure of the brain cortex. This method involves spraying a uniform conductive layer onto a pre-inflated latex balloon and gradually releasing the air, which induces the formation of an
