eXtreme Gradient Boosting-based method to classify patients with COVID-19.

Different demographic, clinical and laboratory variables have been related to the severity and mortality following SARS-CoV-2 infection. Most studies applied traditional statistical methods and in some cases combined with a machine learning (ML) method. This is the first study to date to comparatively analyze five ML methods to select the one that most closely predicts mortality in patients admitted with COVID-19. The aim of this single-center observational study is to classify, based on different types of variables, adult patients with COVID-19 at increased risk of mortality. SARS-CoV-2 infec

Optimising classification of Parkinson's disease based on motor, olfactory, neuropsychiatric and sleep features.

Olfactory loss, motor impairment, anxiety/depression, and REM-sleep behaviour disorder (RBD) are prodromal Parkinson's disease (PD) features. PD risk prediction models typically dichotomize test results and apply likelihood ratios (LRs) to scores above and below cut-offs. We investigate whether LRs for specific test values could enhance classification between PD and controls. PD patient data on smell (UPSIT), possible RBD (RBD Screening Questionnaire), and anxiety/depression (LADS) were taken from the Tracking Parkinson's study (n = 1046). For motor impairment (BRAIN test) in PD cases, publish

A method of surface marker location optimization for tumor motion estimation in lung stereotactic body radiation therapy.

PURPOSE: Accurately localizing lung tumor localization is essential for high-precision radiation therapy techniques such as stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). Since direct monitoring of tumor motion is not always achievable due to the limitation of imaging modalities for treatment guidance, placement of fiducial markers on the patient's body surface to act as a surrogate for tumor position prediction is a practical alternative for tracking lung tumor motion during SBRT treatments. In this work, the authors propose an innovative and robust model to solve the multimarker position optimi

Broad-Spectrum Multi-Epitope Design Targeting Conserved Hantavirus Glycoproteins (Gn/Gc): Chimeric Antigen Engineering and Structural Mapping.

Hantaviruses, the etiological agents of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS), represent a high-risk zoonotic threat with substantial global health impact. Currently, there is no FDA-approved vaccine. The viral surface glycoprotein (GP) is crucial for host cell entry and is regarded as a key target for vaccine development. However, its variability among hantavirus species limits the effectiveness of conventional vaccine strategies. Epitope-based vaccines offer a promising alternative by enabling the design of broadly protective constructs. In this

A Multimodal Fusion Model of Radiomics and Deep Learning Integrating the Tumor Microenvironment Accurately Predicts Pathological Complete Response in Breast Cancer.

BACKGROUND: Pathological complete response (pCR) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is a critical prognostic marker in breast cancer, yet its prediction remains challenging due to tumor heterogeneity and limitations of conventional imaging. While radiomics and deep learning (DL) have shown promise, prior studies often neglect the peritumoral microenvironment, a key determinant of therapeutic response. METHODS: We developed a multimodal model integrating intratumoral radiomics, peritumoral features (9-mm expansion), and DL-derived patterns from pre-NAC MRI. The model was trained and internally

A multi-criteria sustainability and engine performance study of andropogon narudus biodiesel using the PUGH matrix and ML.

The present work provides an experimental, sustainability, and ML-based analysis of Andropogon Nardus biodiesel as a potential second-generation green fuel for compression ignition engines. The biodiesel blends (AN20, AN30, and AN40) were then used on a single-cylinder direct-injection diesel engine over the 25–100% load range and at injection pressures of 190, 210, and 230 bar. Among the three AN30 blends tested, the improvement in engine performance at 230 bar indicates that AN30 provides nearly 15% greater brake thermal efficiency and reduces brake-specific fuel consumption by as much as 31

Multitask learning of longitudinal circulating biomarkers and clinical outcomes: identification of optimal machine-learning and deep-learning models.

BACKGROUND: Many circulating biomarkers are assessed at different time intervals during clinical studies. Despite of the success of standard joint models in predicting clinical outcomes using low-dimensional longitudinal data (1-2 biomarkers), significant computational challenges are encountered when applying these techniques to high-dimensional biomarker datasets. Modern machine- or deep-learning models show potential for multiple biomarker processes, but systematic evaluations and applications to high-dimensional data in the clinical settings have yet to be reported. We aimed to enhance the

An interpretable machine learning model using multimodal pretreatment features predicts pathological complete response to neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Although neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy (nICT) has revolutionized the management of locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), the inability to accurately predict pathological complete response (pCR) remains a major barrier to treatment personalization. We aimed to develop and validate an interpretable machine learning (ML) model using pretreatment multimodal features to predict pCR prior to nICT initiation. METHODS: In this retrospective study, 114 ESCC patients receiving nICT were randomly allocated into training (n=81) and validation (n=33) cohorts (7:3 ratio).

Multimodal multiview bilinear graph convolutional network for mild cognitive impairment diagnosis.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a significant predictor of the early progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and can serve as an important indicator of disease progression. However, many existing methods focus mainly on the image when processing brain imaging data, ignoring other non-imaging data (e.g., genetic, clinical information, etc.) that may have underlying disease information. In addition, imaging data acquired from different devices may exhibit varying degrees of heterogeneity, potentially resulting in numerous noisy connections during network construction. To address these challen
