Case Report: Surgical treatment of stage 3 medication-related osteonecrosis of the maxilla using the "FTT Split" surgical protocol: a report of 14 cases.

Most severe presentation of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is classified as stage 3 for which there are still no standard surgical therapy guideline. Our aim was to describe "Five Times Three (FTT) Split" protocol as surgical treatment of stage 3 maxillary MRONJ. The present case series included a total of 14 patients diagnosed with stage 3 MRONJ of the upper jaw who were treated from February 2022 to September 2024 with mucoperiosteal flap and "FTT Split" protocol. The patients were followed up both clinically and radiologically for a period ranging from 9 months to 3 yea

Patients' quality of life improves after surgical intervention of stage III medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw.

PURPOSE: The treatment of advanced stages of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) remains challenging. In order to improve decision making concerning the therapy, we examined the change of patients' quality of life (QoL) after surgical treatment of MRONJ stage III. METHOD: The primary outcome variable was patients' QoL. It was preoperative (T0), 6 weeks postoperative (T1) and 6 months postoperative (T2) assessed by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer QoL-H&N35 (EORTC QoL-H&N35) and the Oral Health Impact Factor-G14 (OHIP-G14) questionnaire in a prospe

Effectiveness of surgery and hyperbaric oxygen for antiresorptive agent-related osteonecrosis of the jaw: A subgroup analysis by disease stage.

Antiresorptive agent-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (ARONJ) is an adverse event induced by antiresorptive agents (ARAs). The purpose of this study was to evaluate variables, mainly surgery and hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy, associated with treatment outcomes in patients with a diagnosis of ARONJ at a single center. We enrolled consecutive patients who presented to our hospital for the management of stage 2 or 3 ARONJ between January 2003 and December 2019. The relationship between potentially predictive factors and outcome variables was examined using statistical analyses, along with a sub

Relapsing polychondritis: tracheobronchial involvement and differential diagnoses.

This review is describing the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to tracheobronchial involvement in relapsing polychondritis (RP), with a focus on differential diagnoses of inflammatory origin. RP is a systemic auto-immune disease that mainly affects cartilage structures, progressing through inflammatory flare-ups between phases of remission and ultimately leading to deformation of the involved cartilages. Besides the damage of auricular or nasal cartilage, tracheobronchial and cardiac involvement are the most severe, and can seriously alter the prognosis. Tracheobronchial lesions are assesse

The Surgical Management of Proximal Femoral Metastases: A Narrative Review.

The proximal femur is a common location for the development of bony metastatic disease. Metastatic bone disease in this location can cause debilitating pain, pathologic fractures, reduced quality of life, anemia or hypercalcemia. A thorough history, physical examination and preoperative investigations are required to ensure accurate diagnosis and prognosis. The goals of surgical management is to provide pain relief and return to function with a construct that provides stability to allow for immediate weightbearing. Current surgical treatment options include intramedullary nailing, hemiarthropl

Oral foci of infection and their relationship with hospital stay after haematopoietic cell transplantation.

PurposeOral focus screening is recommended before HCT (haematopoietic cell transplantation). Acute foci are generally treated pre-HCT. However, it is unclear whether chronic foci should be treated pre-HCT. This study aimed to evaluate the association between number of foci and early post-HCT morbidity and mortality.MethodsPatients who received an oral screening pre-HCT at Radboudumc between 2013 and 2023, with a recent panoramic radiograph, were included. Foci were defined as teeth or implants with deep pockets, furcation radiolucencies, periapical radiolucencies, deep caries, partial eruption

Multimodal Treatment of Bone Metastasis-A Surgical Perspective.

Over the past decades there has been an increase in the incidence of cancer worldwide. With the advancement in treatment, patient survival has improved in tandem with the increasing incidence. This, together with the availability of advanced modern diagnostic modalities, has resulted in more cases of metastatic bone disease being identified. Bone metastasis is an ongoing problem and has significant morbidity implications for patients affected. Multimodal treatment strategies are required in dealing with metastatic bone disease, which include both surgical and non-surgical treatment options. In

An Approach for the Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Jaw Osteonecrosis: Report of a Case Associated with Zoledronic Acid.

BACKGROUND Osteonecrosis of the jaw is a condition manifesting as necrotic bone for 8 weeks or more, with no history of radiotherapy. It is linked to the use of antiresorptive drugs, such as bisphosphonates and denosumab. We discuss in this case report the importance of infection control during clinical procedures in patients taking antiresorptives. CASE REPORT Our case report describes a 52-year-old woman who had received zoledronic acid injections for 7 years, who presented with osteonecrosis of the jaw in the region of teeth 24, 25, and 26, with no local trauma. The report proceeds to descr
