Recent meta-analyses and a prospective multicenter trial of sentinel node (SN) mapping in early gastric cancer have demonstrated acceptable SN detection rates and accuracy of determination of lymph node status. PURPOSE: Penile carcinoma is rare in the developed world and treatment guidelines are often based on marginal clinical data. Prospective controlled studies are virtually absent and meta-analyses are rare. Vulvar carcinoma, on the other hand, has many parallels to penile carcinoma, and the level of evidence for diagnosis and treatment is more robust. Lymphoscintigraphy is a widely accepted method used to detect selectively the sentinel node in malignant melanoma. This is the case report of a patient who was operated on for an inguinal melanoma and who was referred to the Nuclear Medicine Section for preoperative lymphoscintigraphy. There were technical problems for sentinel node detection due to the proximity of injection points. We aimed to know the possibility to perform an intraoperative lymphoscintigraphy as a valid and useful technique in cases as this one.

INTRODUCTION: Breast-cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) is a frequently occurring and debilitating condition. When lymphedema is diagnosed late, treatment can be expected to be less effective. Lymphofluoroscopy can provide details about the superficial lymphatic architecture and can detect an early disturbance of lymphatic transport (i.e., dermal backflow) before the lymphedema is clinically visible.
