An on-farm deworming trial was conducted between 1991 and 1995 on traditionally managed Djallonke sheep in The Gambia to assess the impact on productivity and profitability of prophylactic biannual anthelmintic treatments- Fifteen private flocks with an average of 25 animals per flock participated in the experiment. Half of each flock was dewormed twice a year while the other half served as the control group. The two productivity traits that were significantly improved by the treatment scheme tested were the number of lambs per lambing which increased from 1.11 +/- 0.31 (Mean +/- S.D.) to 1.19

A study was conducted to determine whether concurrent administration of vaccines for reproductive diseases and an anthelmintic, given immediately prior to estrus synchronization with a progestogen, would affect subsequent estrous response and fertility in beef heifers. Two hundred ninety-five yearling crossbred beef heifers on 3 ranches in Oregon and Kansas were assigned to 1 of 2 treatments. The results of preclinical trials of 28 new compounds of haloid-containing sulfamidobenzamides with low toxicity are presented. The trials on a hymenolepiasis model showed that effectiveness of N-(2,5-dichlorophenyl)-2/(3-nitro-4-chlorophenyl) sulfonylamino/-5-bromobenzamide was similar to that of the well-known drug niclosamide. In the trials on an opisthorchiasis model, 2 compounds were shown to be highly effective, and on a trichocephaliasis model 5 compounds showed a high activity.

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the anthelmintic effects of fenbendazole against intestinal nematode; Ascaris lumbricoides, hookworm and Trichuris trichiura, and to compare the efficacy in fenbendazole, oxantel-pyrantel pamoate and placebo by means of double blind method. A new anthelmintic, amidantel(Bay d 8815), an acetylated p-amino-phenyl-acetamidine was tried in 140 patients with Ancylostoma duodenale and other helminth infections. Tests were made to determine the efficacy of uredofos in either the diet or drinking water for controlling induced Hymenolepis nana and naturally acquired Syphacia obvelata infections in the mouse. The efficacy of diuredosan was determined in dogs experimentally infected with Ancylostoma caninum and Trichuris vulpis. Diuredosan at dosages of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg was 99% effective against A caninum. Efficacies against T vulpis were 88, 85, and 94% at dosages of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg, respectively.

A new broad-spectrum anthelmintic, uredofos, was tested in 146 dogs by single and multiple oral dosing. Single doses of 100 and 50 (but not 25) mg/kg were totally effective in removing Dipylidium caninum and Taenia spp from 46 dogs with infections of tapeworms.
