Antisera to non-enzymatically released oral epithelial cells were produced in rabbits. Reactivity with gingival sections, by immunofluorescence, was observed for intercellular (IC) and basement membrane (BM) zones. Both IC and BM reactivity could be blocked with Concanavalin A (500 and 1000 micrograms/ml respectively) and anti-human fibronectin serum. Pretreatment with pemphigus serum blocked IC reactivity only. Pemphigus antigen may reside in the material present between coherent epithelial cells and be absent from enzymatically dispersed cells.

Immunofluorescent reaction with the use of bullous pemphigoid patients' sera including antibodies to the basement membrane, was applied to the frozen sections of 31 cervical carcinomas. Using the model of renal disease induced in guinea pigs by immunization with bovine TBM preparations in adjuvant, the following observations were made. Animals with activity induced disease show bright staining for IgG along the TBM and only faint, inconstant staining along the GBM. We report the case of a 23-year-old woman with no prior medical history, who was referred for proteinuria and elevated serum creatinine (Cr) level of 3.3 mg/dL.
