Cognitive reinforcement: capturing tacit knowledge and enhancing expertise with a biofeedback interface for visual attention.

Objective.Tacit or implicit knowledge refers to know-how that experts possess but often cannot articulate, codify, or explicitly transfer to others. This can present a significant challenge for learning, skill acquisition, and knowledge transfer across various domains, including those that rely on apprenticeships, craftsmanship, sports, and medical imaging diagnosis. This study explores whether expert tacit knowledge can be accessed and leveraged using an electroencephalography (EEG) and gaze-informed biofeedback interface to enhance expertise transfer and training.Approach.We designed an imag

Comparison of Motor Learning Abilities Using Balance Training in Young and Senior Women.

Motor skills learning is particularly relevant in rehabilitation settings, where patients often need to relearn movements that were lost due to injury or disease. The aim of the study was to assess the ability of motor learning in elder age, using balance training on a stabilometric platform (Homebalance) with visual biofeedback. Both the experimental group (senior women) and the control group (young adult women) underwent the same balance training program, after which demonstrated improvements in velocity and accuracy of movements changing position of center of gravity (COG). The groups diffe

Gastric Biofeedback in Virtual Reality: Feasibility, Efficacy and Self-Reported Experience.

Normal gastric functioning (normogastria) is characterized by rhythmic gastric myoelectric activity, while dysrhythmic gastric activity (bradygastria and tachygastria) is associated with symptoms such as nausea, epigastric discomfort and fullness. Gastric biofeedback using electrogastrography (EGG) has emerged as a promising tool to regulate gastric rhythm, but research remains limited with few experimental studies. The current study (N = 94) tested a novel gastric biofeedback training in virtual reality (VR). We used a randomized controlled study design with three groups: (1) VR gastric biofe
