Technical note on the impact of particle flocculation on the dissolution and bioavailability of triamcinolone acetonide injectable suspensions.

Ensuring drug product quality depends on understanding and controlling the variability of quality attributes that can have a clinically relevant impact. Triamcinolone acetonide (TA) suspension for injection constitutes a widely-used class of long-acting injectables (LAIs) that can exhibit considerable variability in systemic pharmacokinetic (PK) response after intra-articular (i.a.) or intra-muscular (i.m.) administration. Syringe-induced shear (caused by needle gauge and infusion rate variations) during the administration of the injectable drug product is known to impact the dissolution of th

Co-digestion of rice with commercial dietary fibers: Effects on the bioaccessibility of essential and toxic elements.

Inadequate dietary fiber intake remains a global public health concern, and increasing fiber intake through staple foods has been proposed as a practical strategy. However, whether fiber incorporation interferes with mineral bioaccessibility remains unclear. In this study, the co-digestion of three commercial dietary fibers (wheat, oat, and soy) with 15 rice samples was systematically investigated using an in vitro gastrointestinal model, focusing on the bioaccessible concentrations of essential and toxic elements. The experimental design enabled simultaneous evaluation of interaction effects

Germination-driven biochemical remodeling of cereals and pseudocereals: Impacts on nutrient bioaccessibility, phytochemical enrichment, and functional food potential.

Global staples include cereal grains (maize, rice, wheat, barley, and sorghum), whose nutritional value is partly limited by antinutritional factors (phytic acid, oxalates, and protease inhibitors) that limit the absorption of minerals and nutrient bioavailability. Germination is an environmentally friendly and effective bioprocess that enhances the nutritional and functional characteristics of cereals by enzymatic, biochemical, and structural changes. It decreases antinutrients and increases bioactive compounds, such as γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), phenolics, flavonoids, vitamins, and bioactiv

A novel Camellia oil microemulsion significantly enhances the bioaccessibility and antioxidant activity of curcumin: a comparative study with macroemulsion.

This study compared a camellia oil-based microemulsion (CUR-ME) with a macroemulsion (CUR-MacE) of identical composition to enhance the delivery of curcumin. The CUR-ME exhibited a nanoscale droplet size (∼12 nm), low polydispersity (PDI < 0.1), and superior physical stability. During in vitro digestion, CUR-ME achieved a 2.6-fold higher bioaccessibility of curcumin (79.5%) compared to CUR-MacE (30.4%). The bioaccessible fraction from CUR-ME also demonstrated significantly stronger retention of antioxidant activity in ABTS and FRAP assays. Thermal analysis confirmed the molecular dispersion of

Extraction, encapsulation, and bioaccessibility of polyphenols from fruit and vegetable by-products and their health effects: a decade overview.

The fruits and vegetable processing industry produces a huge amount of by-products that are rich in bioactive compounds. Therefore, the recovery of these biologically active compounds from industry by-products has received significant attention. Polyphenols are recognized for their therapeutic potential, including anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. However, they are highly sensitive and easily degraded, and also have lower bioaccessibility due to their instability in gastrointestinal conditions. To increase stability and improve the bioaccessibility of polyphenol

Chemical inhibition of INO1 reduces phytic acid in rice and wheat grains for enhanced micronutrient bioavailability.

Phytic acid (PA), the major phosphorus storage compound in cereal grains, chelates essential minerals such as iron and zinc, thereby preventing their absorption in the human intestine and contributing to micronutrient deficiencies. Myo-inositol 3-phosphate synthase 1 (INO1) is a key enzyme in PA biosynthesis, catalysing the pathway's first step and determining PA contents in cereal grains. Although the genetic modification of PA biosynthesis enzymes can reduce PA levels in grains by disrupting enzyme function, it often impairs germination and seedling growth. Here we used a plant chemical biol

Effects of biomass feedstock and hydrothermal temperature on the molecular composition and bioavailability of invasive plant-based hydrochar-derived dissolved organic matter.

Hydrothermal carbonization demonstrates a potential for converting invasive plants into multifunctional carbonaceous material. Invasive plant-based hydrochar derived dissolved organic matter (HDOM) becomes an important source of anthropogenic dissolved organic matter, however, the molecular composition and bioavailability of HDOM and the controlling factors were not sufficiently revealed. Thus, in this study, a variety of invasive plants were selected to fabricate hydrochar at different hydrothermal temperatures to investigate the molecular composition via FT-ICR-MS and bioavailability based o

Pesticide bioavailability, bioaccumulation, and bioconcentration in zebrafish: a critical review with emphasis on methodological inadequacies.

Zebrafish (Danio rerio) have become the pre-eminent vertebrate model in aquatic ecotoxicology, yet the evidence base on pesticide bioavailability, bioaccumulation, and bioconcentration in this species is characterised by profound methodological fragmentation that limits the derivation of reliable risk estimates. This review critically appraises the primary literature across five major pesticide classes, namely organophosphates, pyrethroids, organochlorines, triazole and succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) fungicides, and herbicides, and argues that the field's central limitation is not a

Amendment of biochar and thiourea-modified biochar to mitigate chromium bioavailability and toxicity by modulating oxidative stress system in Vigna radiata in chromium-contaminated agriculture soil.

Chromium (Cr) contamination in agricultural soil poses a significant threat to crop productivity and human health. However, strategies to reduce Cr bioavailability and transfer within the soil-plant system remain limited. The sole application of biochar or Thiourea has been reported to mitigate Cr-induced toxicity in plants. However, the combined application of biochar and thiourea for alleviating Cr toxicity in plants and inhibiting Cr mobility in soil has not yet been reported. Therefore, this study examines the impact of biochar and thiourea biochar amendments on soil fertility and Cr stres

Food matrices as delivery units of nutrients in processed foods.

Processed food products (PFPs) are amply consumed and important sources of nutrients worldwide. Evaluating PFPs by their composition fails to recognize that nutrients are embedded in food matrices and processing modifies their nutritional functionality, for example, the bioaccessibility and bioavailability. PFPs with equivalent chemical composition may experience the "food matrix effect": a difference in the nutritional outcome and health potential. This review presents food matrices attained after processing and their nutritional significance. It also delves into the complex kinetics of diges
