PURPOSE: We investigated a novel system that uses image-processing algorithms to accurately measure the hemoglobin content of discarded surgical sponges to determine how blood loss relates to the excised area when current methods to minimize bleeding are employed. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is considered a principal cause of sudden unexpected cardiac death in young athletes. However, a number of demographic features observed in these deaths are not consistent with the diagnosis. All of these characteristics instead share in common a propensity for ventricular hypertrophy, implying that these deaths may reflect electrical stability in the extremely rare athlete with exaggerated myocardial hypertrophy in response to sports training. This review provides an evidence-based line of reasoning that supports this concept.

Psoralen combined with long-wave ultraviolt radiation (UV-A) has become a standard method of psoriasis treatment. We conducted a multi-institutional phase I clinical study on a 21-consecutive-day oral administration of etoposide in 12 patients with malignant tumor. The initial dose was 25 mg/body/day and then raised to 50 mg/body/day and eventually to 75 mg/body/day.
