In an attempt to prove that myocarditis may be a cause of idiopathic cardiomyopathy, 10 cases with acute myocarditis were involved in a long-term follow-up study. There were 9 males and 1 female patient, ranging in age from 22 to 63 years. The etiology of myocarditis was idiopathic in 9 cases and rubella virus in 1 case. A 57-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with cardiomegaly on a chest roentgenogram. A mediastinal tumor was observed during a chest computed tomographic scan and the patient was diagnosed with pericardial synovial sarcoma as a result of a tumor biopsy. We report a case of pulmonary capillary hemangiomatosis in a patient with aortic stenosis. An 86-year-old Japanese female with chronic heart failure due to aortic stenosis suddenly died during hemodialysis. At an autopsy, severe aortic stenosis and cardiomegaly with both left and right ventricular hypertrophy were noted. The authors report a male infant born at 35 weeks gestational age with an atypical presentation of homozygous alpha-thalassemia. The live-born infant displayed abnormalities of the upper limbs and genitalia, which are vascular-type disruptive defects associated with this disease. A five month old boy was admitted with symptoms of asthmatic bronchitis. Careful anamnesis revealed failure to thrive latest month, cough since age of three weeks and a few episodes of severe crying. He had cardiomegaly and an electrocardiogram showed Q waves and ST segment elevation in several leads. His condition suddenly deteriorated and he died of cardiac arrest. Autopsy revealed infarction and fibrosis of the myocardium and a left coronary artery originating from the pulmonary artery. Symptoms that earlier could have raised suspicion of cardiac disease are emphasized.

We present a 4-month old infant boy accidentally detected to have cardiomegaly on a chest radiograph, and on further investigation discovered to have a giant right atrial aneurysm and a secundum atrial septal defect. Primary cardiac tumors are uncommon in pediatric patients. We report a two year-old boy, who presented a recurrent left atrial myxoma. He was referred for cardiologic evaluation because of cardiomegaly on a chest X-ray. An echocardiography showed a big left atrial tumor attached to the atrial septum. The tumor was uneventfully removed and the pathological examination confirmed a myxoma. He remained asymptomatic and during a follow up echocardiography two years later, a recurrent tumor was noted. He was successfully operated again, remaining free of a new recurrence after 3 years of follow up.

Late ventricular potentials (LVP) were registered in patients with acquired valvular disease and compared to the data obtained at 24-h ECG monitoring, echocardiography and prospective 1.5-2-year follow-up.
