This article reviews the metabolic pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions with the systemic antifungal agents: the azoles ketoconazole, miconazole, itraconazole and fluconazole, the allylamine terbinafine and the sulfonamide sulfamethoxazole. The majority of these interactions are metabolic and are caused by inhibition of cytochrome P450 (CYP)-mediated hepatic and/or small intestinal metabolism of coadministered drugs. Review of the literature shows that recurrence of primary biliary cirrhosis occurs in about 10% of patients in the first few years after liver transplantation. The cumulative risk is expected to increase in time. The rate of recurrent disease may be affected by the immunosuppression used. Weaning from immunosuppression may initiate recurrence. Disease progression is slow and no reason for graft loss.

BACKGROUND: Leukocytosis without a recognizable etiology often poses a diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma in transplant recipients.
METHODS: Fifty consecutive episodes of leukocytosis in 47 liver transplant recipients were prospectively assessed.
RESULTS: Leukocytosis was documented in 70% (33/47) of the patients, whereas 30% (14/47) of the patients never developed leukocytosis. Three distinctive etiologies accounted for 82% of the episodes. The skinfold thickness (SFT) was measured in 750 Punjabi newborns at triceps and subscapular sites using a Harpenden's Caliper. It was correlated with various maternal and neonatal factors. SFT increased with increasing gestation but showed a decline after 40 weeks. There was a positive correlation of SFT with birth weight and length of the baby in both sexes. Based on a new concept of maturation of the placental villous tree and its disorders (synchronous and asynchronous immaturity, asynchronous maturity, hypermaturity, and terminal villi deficiency) we studied the possible effect of the placental villous tree on the premature onset of labour.
