Vascular hyperpermeability is a complication of hemorrhagic shock. Pericytes (PCs) are a group of mural cells surrounded by microvessels that are located on the basolateral side of the endothelium. The Lyme disease agent, Borrelia burgdorferi, colonizes the gut of the tick Ixodes scapularis, which transmits the pathogen to vertebrate hosts including humans. BACKGROUND: Hirschsprung's disease is a congenital disorder which is rare in adulthood. In typical cases the aganglionosis involves mainly the rectum or rectosigmoid colon and the lesion starts from the anal valve. Zonal segmental aganglionosis is a very rare type even in children.
PATIENT: A 54 year old women with zonal segmental aganglionosis had an aganglionic segment 18 cm in length located in the rectosigmoid colon with an 8 cm long normal appearing rectum and dilated proximal colon. Resection of the stenotic segment with end to end anastomosis was performed.

BACKGROUND: Weaning piglets are highly susceptible to enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) infections, which can cause intestinal barrier function dysfunction and death. However, there is still a lack of efficient, economical, and safe nutritional interventions. This study aimed to investigate the effects of combining butyrate with niacin on intestinal barrier function repair and resistance to ETEC infection in weaned piglets. Of 615 patients with diverticular disease of the colon, 429 had diverticula in the cecum and ascending colon, 98 in the sigmoid and descending colon and 88 in both the right- and left-side colon. The right-sided type was more common in younger people and more predominant in men, whereas the left-sided type was more common in the elderly and showed no difference in numbers between men and women. More than 50 per cent of patients were asymptomatic and 25 per cent complained of disturbed bowel function. The frequency of diverticulitis was not related to location, but to the number of diverticula.
