Assessing occupational vaccine uptake and infection control knowledge among healthcare professionals in Cameroon: a cross-sectional analysis.

BACKGROUND: Due to occupational exposures, healthcare professionals (HCPs) face an increased risk of infectious diseases, particularly in low-resource settings. Despite infection prevention and control (IPC) policies, systemic and behavioral barriers exist in Cameroon. This study assessed the uptake of occupational vaccines (hepatitis B and COVID-19) and IPC knowledge among HCPs in Fako Division of Cameroon. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted from January to May 2024 among 276 HCPs from four health facilities in Fako Division. Data were collected using a pretested, structured, sel

Investigating the relationship between Helicobacter pylori and intestinal Clostridioides difficile infection: evidence from a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in the stomach can lead to alterations in the gut microbiota. However, the association between H. pylori infection and Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) remains unclear. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study to evaluate the association between H. pylori infection and CDI. We included patients hospitalized for diarrhea at our center between 2019 and 2024 who underwent both H. pylori and CDI testing during their hospital stay. H. pylori infection was diagnosed using either the carbon-13 urea breath test or the rap

Impact of severe COVID-19 infection on coronary microvascular dysfunction in ANOCA patients: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Millions of survivors from severe COVID-19 infection suffer from residual symptoms including anginal chest pain. The pathophysiological mechanisms, particularly the role of coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD), however, remain elusive. We compared the incidence and endotypes of CMD in patients with angina without obstructive coronary artery disease (ANOCA) between those who had a history of severe COVID-19 infection (COVID group, defined as COVID patients needing supplemental oxygen therapy with SpO2 < 90 % on room air), versus those who didn't (Control group). Single-cell atlas of cervical organoids uncovers epithelial immune heterogeneity and intercellular cross-talk during Chlamydia infection.

The uterine cervix is a critical mucosal interface that balances immune defense and reproductive function, yet how its distinct epithelial compartments coordinate responses to infection remains unclear. Here, we integrate patient-derived three-dimensional cervical organoids, single-cell transcriptomics, and native tissue analysis to construct a high-resolution atlas of epithelial cell diversity and immune dynamics during Chlamydia trachomatis infection. We demonstrate that cervical organoids closely resemble native tissue at transcriptional and cellular levels, identifying epithelial subtypes
