The authors describe a modification of cycloccryocoagulation /CCC/ they used in the treatment of different types of glaucoma in a group of 320 eyes. Cryodestruction of the ciliary body was implemented with a probe at a temperature of -60 degrees C for a period of 2 x 20sec. in two points of opposite qaudrants, using a transconjunctival approach. The probe was applied at a distance of 3 mm from the limbus. Following a period of 12 months to 3 years after operation they investigated the intraocular pressure and visual acuity of the treated eyes. They recorded a hypotonic effect comparable to cry

CCT is a simple, noninvasive, short, ablative surgical procedure that has been effectively used to treat advanced uncontrolled glaucoma. A specific protocol is recommended and the rationale for strict adherence is presented. The long-term benefits of CCT in patients with open-angle glaucoma following cataract extraction have been well established. However, although patients with neovascular glaucoma may have adequate pressure control following CCT, the serious complications of progression to no light perception and phthisis bulbi have discouraged its use. CCT can be effective for neovascular g

In vivo reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) enables monitoring of non-melanocytic skin cancers (NMSC) treated with non-invasive or minimally invasive therapies. This systematic review analyzed studies on NMSC treated with these therapies and monitored by RCM. A total of 56 articles were included, with 40 focusing on squamous conditions, such as actinic keratosis and squamous cell carcinoma, 15 on basal cell carcinoma (BCC), and 1 on extramammary Paget's disease. Evaluated therapies included ablative laser, cryosurgery, photodynamic therapy, 5-fluorouracil, imiquimod, and tirbanibulin, among …

Giant condylomata are not usually seen nowadays in developed nations, but such cases are still seen in the under-resourced countries. Condyl … s vaginal discharge and difficulty in walking. She had previously been treated with podophyllin and cryosurgery without success. The growth measured 30×10 cm in each side and was successfully excised with no evidence of malignancy concomitant and reconstruction also done.

The development of metastatic soft tissue sarcoma (American Joint Committee on Cancer stage IV) is associated with a poor prognosis. Surgica … oaches have been developed to manage visceral metastatic disease. These ablative procedures include cryosurgery, radiofrequency tumor ablation, and alcohol injection. All such procedures are considered investigational; outcome should be compared to that achievable with traditional surgical metastasectomy. The optimal sequence of treatments and role for periop …

There is some debate regarding the rate of progression of actinic keratosis (AK) into squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).1-4 However, it is clear … following therapy, and fewer systemic side effects. Cosmetic outcomes are better with PDT than with cryosurgery or excisional surgery. A number of case reports show efficacy with ALA/PDT and MAL/PDT for acne, photorejuvenation, and other off-label indications. Side effects with PDT tend to be mild to moderate and transient in nature. Overall, ALA/PDT and MAL/ …

IMPORTANCE: Multiple interventions are available for the treatment of actinic keratosis (AK). However, most randomized clinical trials and m … namic therapy with methyl aminolevulinate (MAL-PDT) (RR, 5.95; 95% CI, 1.21-29.41; GRADE, low), and cryosurgery (RR, 4.67; 95% CI, 1.36-16.66; GRADE, very low). Similarly, ALA-PDT had the highest RR in the NMA for lesion-specific clearance (RR, 5.08; 95% CI, 2.49-10.33; GRADE, moderate). No NMA was possible for participant partial clearance owing to poor repo …

Seborrheic keratosis (SK) is the most common skin tumor seen by dermatologists in everyday practice. Although the lesions are mostly benign, many patients still elect to have asymptomatic SK removed. The historical standards of treatment are cryosurgery and electrocautery, two surgical options that are effective at lesion removal but have high rates of postoperative adverse events such as treatment-site scarring and pigmentary alterations. The cosmetic outcomes of SK treatment modalities are of keen interest to dermatologists, as the American population becomes increasingly more diverse. In th…

A 2-year-old male ostrich (Struthio camelus) presented with a rapidly growing soft tissue mass protruding from the ventromedial aspect of the right eye (OD). The initial physical examination revealed a soft tissue mass attached to the medial inferior conjunctiva. The mass was excised with cryosurgery, and the conjunctival tissue margins were treated with cryoablation. Histopathological examination diagnosed granulomatous inflammation associated with scattered acid-fast bacteria. The ostrich recovered uneventfully and appeared healthy until recurrence of a grossly similar mass 2 months later. G…

INTRODUCTION: A great number of consmetically disturbing, cutaneous lesions are localized in the periocular region. While various approaches for treatment such as excision, electrocauterization or cryosurgery often show unsatisfactory results, the use of laser technology is of increasing interest.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 104 patients with different cutaneous periorbital lesions (wrinkles, xanthelasma, syringoma) were treated with a new erbium: YAG laser system (wavelength 2940 nm, pulse duration 0.350 ms and pulse energy 0.1-1.7 Joules), which works on the principle of vaporization.

Actinic keratosis (AK) lesions should be treated because they may evolve into lesions clinically indistinguishable from those of invasive squamous cell carcinoma which require expensive therapy. Treatment options for AK include cryosurgery, curettage and excisional surgery, dermabrasion, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), imiquimod, diclofenac, and tretinoin, each with advantages and limitations. Clinical trial results show that photodynamic therapy (PDT) with 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) is an effective and safe treatment of nonhypertrophic AK lesions of the scalp and fa…

Pyogenic granuloma is a frequently diagnosed, benign vascular lesion common in children and young adults. Treatment of pyogenic granuloma consists of removal of the lesion for therapeutic as well as diagnostic purposes. Current treatment modalities include curettage with electrodesiccation, cryosurgery, chemical cauterization, and argon laser therapy. However, these methods are not without the risk of complications such as scarring and pigmentary changes. The recently reported success of the flashlamp-pumped pulsed dye laser for treating telangiectasias, hemangiomas, and port-wine stains led u…
