Evaluation of pulpal blood flow after tooth splinting of luxated permanent maxillary incisors.

Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) is a non-invasive method to assess pulpal blood flow (PBF). Dental injury has been associated with losses of pulpal sensibility. The purpose of this study was to assess whether LDF could be used to detect short- and long-term changes of PBF values of luxated permanent maxillary central incisors after repositioning and splinting. In 18 trauma patients, a single maxillary incisor treated by repositioning and splinting, and the respective contralateral homologous tooth were investigated by LDF to assess local PBF values. Perfusion units (PU) were taken in four sessio

In vitro embryotoxicity assessment with dental restorative materials.

OBJECTIVES: Resin (co)monomers may be released from restorative dental materials and can diffuse into the tooth pulp or the gingiva, and can reach the saliva and the circulating blood. Genotoxic potential of some dental composite components has been clearly documented. The genotoxic effects of xenobiotics can represent a possible step in tumor initiation and/or embryotoxicity/teratogenesis. A modified fluorescent mouse embryonic stem cell test (R.E.Tox) was used to test the embryotoxic potential of following dental restorative materials: Bisphenol A glycidylmethacrylate (BisGMA), urethanedimet

Optogenetic control of odontoblastic differentiation in dental pulp stem cells (DPSC).

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Dental Pulp Stem Cells (DPSC) are sensitive to ionic and electrical cues governing mineralization. We developed a photo-responsive in vitro model using a synthetic optogenetic construct to test whether light-gated ion flux can modulate odontoblastic differentiation without biochemical induction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A commercially available, non-clinical-grade DPSC line was transfected with a modular light-gated cation channel (Opto-Ca2+Switch) driven by a mineralization-associated synthetic promoter. Cells were embedded in gelatin methacrylate (GelMA)-carbon-dot composi

Vital Pulp Therapy in Permanent Teeth with Irreversible Pulpitis Caused by Caries: A Prospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: When a tooth is diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis, root canal therapy (RCT) is generally performed to completely remove pulp tissue, which might lead to a higher risk of loss of vascularity, and teeth being more prone to fracture. Vital pulp therapy (VPT) is a personalized method of treating irreversible pulpitis, which conforms to the trend of minimally invasive endodontics. The remaining vital pulp could promote the physiological development of the roots of young permanent teeth with incomplete apical foramen. However, clear guidelines for VPT indication are still missing. OB
