According to the Epidemiologic Catchment Area (ECA) study--one of the largest investigations of the prevalence of mental disorders ever conducted--anxiety disorders affect more than 7% of adults in the United States. Women, individuals under age 45, those who are separated or divorced, and those in low socioeconomic groups all have a higher rate of anxiety than individuals in other groups. Some data on 239 patients with Hodgkin's disease in a long-term (5-12 yrs.) remission achieved with radiotherapy, have been analysed. The retrospective assessment of adverse childhood experiences is a widely used technique. Few studies report heterogeneous results about the reliability and objectivity. The frequency of marriage and divorce did not differ from that of the general population. Female ileostomists married less often than females with ileorectal anastomosis (IRA) and had reduced fertility. In this article, we use a phenomenology framework to explore emerging adults' formative experiences of family stress. Fourteen college students participated in a qualitative interview about their experience of family stress. We analyzed the interviews using the empirical phenomenological psychology method.
