Proposition of real-time precise prediction model of infectious disease patients from Prescription Surveillance using the National Database of Electronic Medical Claims.

The incidence of common pediatric infectious diseases has been monitored officially at sentinel medical institutions in Japan. However, the numbers of affected patients are not provided. Prescription Surveillance (PS), which infers the number of patients with influenza, varicella, and gastrointestinal infections from data related to prescriptions at external pharmacies, provides estimates to the public the following morning. This study assessed the prediction ability of the incidence of common pediatric infectious diseases from PS information using the National Database of Electronic Medical C

Using electronic health record data to identify incident uterine fibroids and endometriosis within a large, urban academic medical center: a validation study.

Electronic health records (EHRs) present opportunities to study uterine fibroids and endometriosis within diverse populations. When using EHR data, it is important to validate outcome classification via diagnosis codes. We performed a validation study of 3 approaches ([1] International Classification of Diseases-10 (ICD-10) code alone, [2] ICD-10 code + diagnostic procedure, and [3] ICD-10 code + all diagnostic information) to identify incident uterine fibroids and endometriosis patients among n = 750 NYU Langone Health 2016-2023. Chart review was used to determine the true diagnosis status. W

Automated Monkeypox Identification from Electronic Medical Records Using Large Language Models - Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, China, 2023-2025.

INTRODUCTION: Monkeypox (mpox) is an emerging infectious disease with diverse clinical manifestations that complicate early case identification. Traditional diagnostic methods relying on laboratory confirmation may delay detection during the early stages of infection. Clinical free-text data in electronic medical records (EMRs), such as chief complaints and histories of present illness, contain valuable information for early identification yet remain underutilized in routine surveillance. This study explored an automated approach to mpox identification from EMRs using large language models (LL

Identifying opioid relapse during COVID-19 using natural language processing of nationwide Veterans Health Administration electronic medical record data.

Novel and automated means of opioid use and relapse risk detection are needed. Unstructured electronic medical record data, including written progress notes, can be mined for clinically relevant information, including the presence of substance use and relapse-critical markers of risk and recovery from opioid use disorder (OUD). In this study, we used natural language processing (NLP) to automate the extraction of opioid relapses, and the timing of these occurrences, from veteran patients' electronic medical record. We then demonstrated the utility of our NLP tool via analysis of pre-/post-COVI

Rationale and design of NUDGE-CKD: A nationwide randomized factorial trial of electronic nudges for increasing guideline-directed medical therapy in chronic kidney disease.

BACKGROUND: Treatment guidelines for chronic kidney disease (CKD) recommend sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) as first-line treatment for a broad range of individuals with CKD, alongside renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RASi). However, adoption of guidelines in clinical practice is often delayed, potentially leading to avoidable associated morbidity and mortality. Effective strategies are needed to improve implementation of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) in patients with CKD. This trial will evaluate the effectiveness of electronic letter-based nudges, delivered
