INTRODUCTION: We investigated the possible protective effect of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibition in preventing endothelial dysfunction induced by hyperhomocysteinemia (Hhcy).
METHODS: Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into Hhcy group, Hhcy + 3-aminobenzamide(3-AB) group, control group and control + 3-AB group. A high-methionine diet was given to induce hyperhomocysteinemia. In Hhcy + 3-AB and control + 3-AB groups, rats were injected intraperitoneally with 3-AB (inhibitor of PARP). After 45 days, ultrastructural changes of aortas were observed by transmission electron microscope.

We investigated the effects of endothelin-1 (ET-1) on pressor responses to norepinephrine (NE) in perfused rat mesenteric arteries. Perfusion of the arteries with a subpressor dose of ET-1 (3 x 10(-10) M) for 15 min markedly enhanced the pressor responses to NE (10(-6) and 3 x 10(-6) M), and this effect was significantly prevented by BQ788 (10(-6) M) but not by FR139317 (10(-6) M). The use of cyclosporin A (CsA) in solid organ transplantation has been shown to be associated with the development of hypertension and nephrotoxicity. Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are commonly divided into storage, voiding, and postmicturition symptoms, and may occur in both men and women. BACKGROUND: The etiology of HIV-related retinal microangiopathy syndrome is yet unknown. Several authors postulate direct endothelial-cell infection, an immunocomplex vasculitis caused by HIV-related hypergammaglobulinemia or an increased serum concentration of endothelin as its origin.
PATIENTS: 118 patients infected by HIV-1 have been examined (CDC I: 1; CDC II: 42; CDC III: 7; CDC IV: 68). 49 out of them were also infected by hepatitis-C-virus (CDC I: 0; CDC II: 16; CDC III: 4; CDC IV: 29).
