Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is one of the most commonly encountered carcinomas; however, progression to invasive or locally advanced disease is extremely rare. BACKGROUND: Disseminated cryptococcosis is a severe, high-mortality opportunistic infection with systemic effects, particularly in immunocompromised patients.
CASE PRESENTATION: Herein, we report a rare case of fulminant disseminated cryptococcosis in a 32-year-old male with undiagnosed advanced human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome who rapidly developed multi-organ failure, refractory shock, and cardiac arrest within 21 h of admission, necessitating veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Despite resuscitative efforts, the patient died on Day 6.

Between 1981 and 1992, the Centers for Disease Control collected and summarized 9,223 cases of Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF) reported from 46 states. Four states (North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and South Carolina) accounted for 48% of the reports. A patient with mycosis fungoides in the tumor stage was treated with ciclosporin A orally in daily doses of 5 mg/kg body weight for 5 weeks. Three weeks after cessation of treatment the patient died with dissemination of the cutaneous lymphoma to the lungs, myocardium, liver, pancreas, kidneys, adrenals, and stomach. Treatment with ciclosporin A may have contributed to the death of this patient.
