Acquired laryngo-pharyngeal fistula is a very rare condition. This paper reports a 65-year-old man who presented with a laryngo-pharyngeal fistula caused by trauma to the cervical vertebra. The symptom was persistent aspiration. The fistula was located between the subglottic space and the hypopharynx through the cricoid lamina. A fluoroscopic video recording was useful in demonstrating the fistula, and a fibrescopic examination confirmed its existence and exact location. The fistula was successfully treated with closure of both larynx and pharynx with a sternomastoid muscle interposition.

A rare case of congenital parotid gland fistula is reported. A 4-year-old boy presented with a fistula opening at the facial surface of the skin posterior to the left commissure of the lips. This fistula originated from an accessory parotid gland with a duct entirely distinct from the original Stensen's duct. Because of the salivary outflow from the fistula opening, the opening was translocated to the oral cavity using Delore's method.

We report a primary congenital coronary artery fistula with left-to-right shunt to the coronary sinus in a 71 year old female. The angiographic proof was by supravalvular aortography.

Ninety-two cases of vesicouterine fistula reported in the world literature since 1908 are reviewed. The lesion was rarely seen before 1947. It usually followed a vaginal operative delivery and the usual complaint was total urinary incontinence. Diagnosis was most often made indirectly by seeing urine or dye pass through an intact external cervical os. Management usually involved a vaginal, surgical approach to repair. Since 1947, vesicouterine fistula, while not common, is no longer rare. It occurs most often after low segment cesarean section. While urinary incontinence may occur, the major s…

In this update, 15 additional successful transanal repairs followed for one to six years postoperatively for low rectovaginal fistulas without colostomies are added to the uniformly successful 20 patients presented in a 1978 report. Changes in perioperative routines have greatly enhanced cost efficiency and these modifications are enumerated. The repair still encompasses total excision of the epithelialized fistula, and reapproximation of the attenuated septal fibers and anal sphincter mechanism, as well as the caudad rectal mucosal advancement that covers and protects the repair from the feca…

A study of 35 lesions diagnosed as branchial cleft sinuses or fistulas identified a homogeneous subgroup characterized by ectopic salivary tissue, draining serous or mucoid fluid through a short sinus tract to the base of the neck anteriorly. These lesions should more properly be called congenital cervical salivary fistulas, since they may not arise from the branchial apparatus but rather from the embryonic placodal duct.

The authors report herein their experience in treating 75 cases of vesicovaginal fistulas. 80% were caused by gynecologic surgery and 20% were of obstetrical origin. The authors favor the transvaginal approach and describe in detail the two technics they recommend. The most commonly used method is the Chassar-Moir procedure. 70% of the patients were cured after one attempt with this procedure, and 93% after two operations. In complicated fistulas (irradiated or extended to the urethra) the Martius procedure was used. In this technic a flap formed from the fat tissue of one of the labia majora …

Vesicovaginal fistula is a recognized complication in patients with antecedent surgical trauma or pelvic organ malignancy and as a sequela to radiation in this area. A review of the literature failed to document a case of isolated congenital vesicovaginal fistula with no other associated organ dysgenesis. We report on a 4-year-old child with incontinence resulting from an idiopathic vesicovaginal fistula.

A recently observed personal case of spontaneous cholecystospontaneous fistula is reported. Factors leading to the relative infrequency of this form in recent years are described, and its rarity is demonstrated by the fact that the case reported was the first to be noted in about 1000 operations on the bile ducts. A brief account of the genesis, diagnosis and treatment of the condition is given. The interest of the case lay in the unusual site of the orifice (epigastrium).

A case of postcesarean vesico-uterine fistula in conjunction with a fibrous cord joining the anterior and posterior wall of the bladder is reported. The symptoms of menouria and amenorrhoea in the absence of urinary incontinence are explained by reference to the pressure gradients which normally exist in the bladder and the uterine cavity. The etiology, diagnosis and therapy of this and other reported cases are reviewed.

The most common cause of parotid fistula is trauma. Other causes include operative complications, infection, and malignancy. In the acute phase of ductal injury, primary reconstruction, if possible, is the treatment of choice. Acute parenchymal injury is treated by tight closure and expectancy. When diverting or flow-blocking measures fail to correct chronic ductal fistula, the treatment of choice for this situation as well as for chronic parenchymal fistula may be tympanic neurectomy, which can be done under local anesthesia, is associated with low morbidity, is relatively uncomplicated and h…

A case of a 29-year-old man who developed a renal arteriovenous fistula after a gunshot injury is reported. The patient presented with renovascular hypertension associated with high putput cardiac failure, both of which were reversed by surgery.

Stephens and Smith have recently described a urethroanal connection through which urine was passed preferentially into the otherwise normal rectum at the pectinate line. Other authors have reported similar deformities. The term "congenital 'H-type' anourethral fistula" was proposed for this rare anomaly by deVries and Friedland in 1974. In this communication, we describe two examples of the "H-type" urethroanal fistula (Fig. 1). Each patient also had tracheoesophageal fistula. One patient (R.P.), now 11 yr of age, has had successful correction of the anomaly. The other patient (T.McC.), a smal…
