Bladder stones around a migrated and missed intrauterine contraceptive device.

Bladder stones occasionally develop because of foreign bodies in the bladder. Bladder stones in a 30-year-old woman were found to have formed around an intrauterine contraceptive device that had gone missing many years previously and had migrated into the bladder. Plain abdominal radiograms should be a part of the evaluation in patients with a history of an unretrieved intrauterine contraceptive device.

Persistent foreign body sensation and pharyngeal pain due to retention of staples: an interesting sequelae of endoscopic stapling procedure.

The surgical treatment of a pharyngeal pouch with endoscopic stapling diverticulotomy is a relatively new concept. Long-term results and complications are yet to be fully studied. We describe a patient who developed persistent pharyngeal pain and foreign body sensation due to retention of a clump of staples at the cricopharyngeal sphincter. This complication has not been reported before. This case highlights the need for repeat endoscopy rather than a barium swallow X-ray if the patients are symptomatic after stapling procedures.

Removal of a foreign body from the distal colon using a combined laparoscopic and endoanal approach: report of a case.

PURPOSE: We describe the case of a of 53-year-old homosexual male, from whom a cigar container (22 cm in length and 3.5 cm in diameter), which was introduced into the rectum and migrated upwards to the distal colon, was successfully extracted by combining laparoscopic and anal approaches. METHODS: The foreign body was mobilized laparoscopically, pushed down the rectum, and then extracted transanally with the aid of a dilator anoscope. CONCLUSIONS: Combining the laparoscopic and anal approaches in selected cases of colorectal foreign bodies is useful.

[Mechanical complications at implantation sites].

Mechanical complications of implanted venous access devices are more common than suggested by the literature. Among them, the most severe is catheter embolism, which is due primarily to costoclavicular pinch-off syndrome (POS). POS occurs mainly after infraclavicular approach of the subclavian vein, the incidence being 8/1000 in our experience. Clinical and radiological findings suggestive of rupture should be well known since they require removal of the device. Other access sites (internal jugular vein, cephalic vein, subclavian vein by the supraclavicular approach) seem preferable for long-t

[Intra-vesical translocation of an intrauterine device, report of a case].

The intra-uterine device TCu 380 (IUD) has a great acceptance among the group of women that take the fertility control in not definitive form and it is being accepted by more women. In spite of the simple technique to insert the IUD, the people in charge of the planning family program in the first level attention section of the centers of health, have not enough knowledge for its insertion. We reported the case of a 21 year old woman that applied the IUD immediately after her baby's birth and she had sudden expulsion the following week. She went to the first level attention section where they

Balloon-wire retrieval of a migrated urethral stent in the early postoperative period.

We report on a new endoscopic approach to the removal of a migrated urethral stent following hypospadias repair. A flexible balloon-tipped guide wire allows the effective cystoscopic retrieval of a urethral stent, suggesting potential applications to the removal of other foreign bodies in the urinary tract.

Laparoscopic management of enterohepatic migrated fish bone mimicking liver neoplasm: A case report and literature review.

RATIONALE: Accidental ingestion of a foreign body is common in daily life. But the hepatic migration of perforated foreign body is rather rare. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 37-year-old man presented with a history of vague epigastric discomfort for about 2 months. DIAGNOSIS: A diagnosis of the foreign body induced hepatic inflammatory mass was made based on abdominal computed tomographic scan and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. INTERVENTIONS: The patient underwent laparoscopic laparotomy. During the operation, inflammatory signs were seen in the lesser omentum and segment 3 of liver. B- Ultrasound

A systematic review and meta-analysis of factors associated with esophageal stent migration and a comparison of antimigration techniques.

BACKGROUND: Esophageal stents are effective in managing various pathologies. However, they are limited by their most common complication: migration. This study aimed to present the largest comprehensive review of the risk factors associated with stent migration and the interventions leveraged to prevent stent migration. METHODS: A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The inclusion criteria were primary data sources (no systematic reviews), ≥18 years of age, esophageal stent placement, and reported

Acute Cholangitis Caused by Migration of a Pancreatic Stent Into a Biliary Stent.

Jimbo and colleagues report a rare case of acute cholangitis caused by migration of a pancreatic stent into a biliary stent, despite appropriate placement. The pancreatic stent obstructed the biliary stent, underscoring the need for careful placement of biliary stents to prevent migration-related complications following endoscopic procedures.

Ring-Embedded Finger Over Proximal Interphalangeal Joint with Preserved Neurovascularization: A Case Report and Literature Review.

CASE: We present a unique case of a 45-year-old man with his right middle finger embedded with rings. Limited finger flexion was noted because of flexor tendon injury caused by the dorsal migration of the embedded ring through joint. The rings were removed under anesthesia, resulting in the resolution of swelling and recover of osseous structure. Follow-up examinations revealed no residual edema or numbness, indicating preserved neurovascularization, despite the dorsal migration of the ring. CONCLUSION: Our unique case reveals continuous finger ring migration without compromising neurovascula

Endovascular Retrieval of a Dislocated Stent in the Right Ventricle of a Patient with Nutcracker Syndrome.

Left renal vein stenting is a preferable therapeutic option for patients with nutcracker syndrome (NS). As a potential complication of stent implantation, stent migration from the original placement to the right ventricle is relatively rare but can seriously threaten the patient's life. Endovascular stent retrieval is the most beneficial procedure for coping with this fatal complication. In this report, we aimed to describe an effective but relatively feasible endovascular approach using the combination of a goose neck snare and a large bore sheath for the retrieval of a stent dislodged in the

Management of Venous and Arterial Bullet Emboli.

Gunshot wounds account for significant morbidity and mortality in the United States. A rare and potentially fatal complication of a gunshot wound is bullet embolus. Potential complications include distal limb ischemia, coronary infarct, renal infarction, stroke, pulmonary embolization, cardiac valvular injury, thrombophlebitis, and dysrhythmias. Overall, surgical embolectomy and endovascular retrieval are the preferred treatments for bullet emboli. We report one case of venous bullet embolus and one case of arterial bullet embolus, both of which were successfully treated with endovascular retr

Radiological correlation of mechanism of intravascular migration of the ventriculoperitoneal shunt and technical considerations for endovascular retrieval.

Migration of ventriculoperitoneal shunt into the pulmonary artery is a rare complication that can lead to shunt malfunction and cardiopulmonary complications. This case illustrates the significance of accidental transvenous placement of the shunt. Identification of the transvenous course of the catheter on cross sectional imaging can predict future catheter migration and also aid at surgical extraction. Formation of knot within the distal portion of the shunt catheter during migration or endovascular retrieval can occur, therefore measures to retrieve with knot and adhesions should be factored

Case of retained guide wires traversing anatomical boundaries with neurological and cardiac morbidity.

A 69-year-old woman with a history of multiple hospital attendances for cardiac and neurological symptoms, presented with multifocal cerebral infarcts due to embolisation from retained guide wires and was referred for retrieval of two wires. One was intracardiac and the other had migrated through major vascular structures, breeching anatomical boundaries. Just before surgery, she half-expectorated a 35 cm wire that was removed with a video laryngoscope. Three days later, the second wire had traversed the right ventricular myocardium in an attempt to exteriorise, and a 7 cm wire was removed by

Late onset of pneumothorax after bronchoscopic lung volume reduction due to migration of a nitinol coil.

The use of Endobronchial coils are a relatively new brochoscopic technique for lung volume reduction. They appear to be safe and effective in improving quality of life, reducing morbidity and mortality related to the primary disease, while avoiding the many risks of morbidity and mortality associated with surgery. Nevertheless, some complications, such as pneumothorax, are relatively common in the periprocedural period. We describe a case of pneumothorax that occurred several days after brochoscopic technique for lung volume reduction due to direct perforation of the visceral pleura by a coil.
