Multiple Disseminated Pyogenic Granuloma Post-Oil Burning: A Review of Literature.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a common acquired vascular tumor and may appear mostly as a solitary papulonodular lesion on the face, trunk, and extremities. Although the etiology of PG is unclear, trauma, infections, and hormones may play a role. Multiple disseminated PGs are a very rare form and mostly are seen after traumas such as burn. We presented a patient with multiple PGs secondary to oil burning. There has been no report of PG caused by scald burn due to oil before. We also reviewed the literature in English and found 24 other cases of disseminated PG that most of them developed post-boi

Pyogenic granuloma associated with conjunctival epithelial neoplasia: report of nine cases.

AIMS: To systematically describe the clinical and histopathological features of a case series of conjunctival carcinomatous lesions underlying as-and also masquerading-pyogenic granuloma. METHODS: Nine cases of conjunctival carcinomatous lesions underlying a pyogenic granuloma (which were clinically predominant) were retrospectively identified. Patients' records were analysed for demographic data, clinical appearance and the postoperative course. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded specimens were routinely processed and stained with H&E and periodic acid-Schiff. Immunohistochemical stains for cy

Orocutaneous fistulas of odontogenic origin presenting as a recurrent pyogenic granuloma.

Orocutaneous fistulas, or cutaneous sinuses of odontogenic origin, are uncommon but often misdiagnosed as skin lesions unrelated to dental origin by physicians. Accurate diagnosis and use of correct investigative modalities are important because orocutaneous fistulas are easily confused for skin or bone tumors, osteomyelitis, infected cysts, salivary gland fistulas, and other pathologies. The aim of this study is to present our experience with a patient with orocutaneous fistulas of odontogenic origin presenting as recurrent pyogenic granuloma of the cheek, and to discuss their successful trea

Infected conjunctival pyogenic granuloma at strabismus surgery site mimicking conjunctival abscess.

We present a rare case of infected pyogenic conjunctival granuloma mimicking a conjunctival abscess as complication of strabismus surgery in a Saudi girl with exotropia. Despite administration of local antibiotics following strabismus surgery, a patient presented with localised redness and discharge after three weeks. The patient was afebrile with no signs of pre-septal or orbital cellulitis. After culture (Staphylococcus aureus) sensitivity testing the patient was prescribed oral Amoxicillin and Clavulanate and reviewed under general anaesthesia. A 55 mm2 conjunctival pyogenic granuloma was n

Pyogenic granuloma in the jejunum successfully removed by single-balloon enteroscopy.

Pyogenic granuloma is a non-infectious and non-granulomatous lesion. Its location in the small bowel is very rare. We present a 46 year-old woman with a chronic liver disorder that had a severe chronic anemia with occult blood losses. Upper endoscopy and colonoscopy were normal. A small bowel capsule endoscopy showed a pyogenic granuloma in jejunum that was resected endoscopically with single balloon enteroscopy with no major complications. The patient recovered from anemia and six months latter capsule endoscopy did not show lesions.

Primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma masquerading as large pyogenic granuloma.

Primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma (pcALCL) forms 9% of the cutaneous T-cell lymphomas. It usually presents as solitary reddish brown ulcerating nodule or indurated plaque. Sometimes, it mimics other dermatological diseases such as eczema, pyoderma gangrenosum, pyogenic granuloma, morphea, and squamous cell carcinoma. Our case presented with large pyogenic granuloma like lesion with regional lymphadenopathy. Since pcALCL is rare, one can misdiagnose such cases and therefore high index of suspicion is necessary.

Pyogenic granuloma in relation to dental implants: Clinical and histopathological findings.

BACKGROUND: The occurrence of pyogenic granuloma in association to dental implants is rare and only five cases have been reported in the literature. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Patients charts were analyzed to select patients who had been diagnosed for pyogenic granuloma and its association with dental implants had been evaluated. The clinical status of the dental implants and the prosthesis had also been assessed. RESULTS: Clinical and histopathological diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma had been reached for soft mass growth in association with dental implants in 10 patients. Histological analysis o

Immunohistochemical Evaluation of Angiogenesis Related Markers in Pyogenic Granuloma of Gingiva.

BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma is a common non-neoplastic connective tissue proliferation. ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 are vascular adhesion molecules and CD34 is a marker for evaluation of angiogenesis. The purpose of this study was to compare the immunohistochemical expression of ICAM-1, VCAM-1 and CD34 in oral pyogenic granuloma and normal gingiva. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was performed on thirty five formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded samples of gingival pyogenic granuloma. Also we used thirty five paraffined blocks of normal gingiva as control group which were taken from crown lengthening

Resolution of recalcitrant pyogenic granuloma with laser, corticosteroid, and timolol therapy.

A pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a rapidly growing benign vascular tumor that can be found on the skin or subcutaneous tissue. While some pyogenic granulomas may resolve spontaneously, most have a tendency to bleed easily and require treatment. Current therapeutic modalities include topical imiquimod, cryotherapy, electrodessication, curettage, excision, laser therapy, sclerotherapy, and microembolization. We report a recalcitrant case of chronic pyogenic granuloma occurring on the scalp of a healthy young male which was unresponsive to conventional surgical and non-surgical modalities. Ultimately

Pyogenic granuloma in a 5-month-old treated with topical timolol.

A 5-month-old healthy female presented with a pyogenic granuloma on the cheek. The lesion was treated with topical 0.5% gel-forming solution, resulting in regression of the lesion after 1 month of treatment and no recurrence at 8 months. This case suggests that treatment of pyogenic granulomas with topical timolol may be considered, especially when other treatment modalities are challenging or could result in significant scarring.

Transanal excision of rectal pyogenic granuloma: case report and literature review.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a benign vascular lesion occurring most commonly on the acral skin of children. It is a capillary hemangioma of lobular subtype, often prone to bleeding. Surgical removal of the lesion is indicated to prevent bleeding and avoid diagnostic uncertainty. We describe a successful surgical removal of a rectal PG with transanal endoscopic microsurgery and review the reports of gastrointestinal tract PG in the international literature.

Pyogenic granuloma occurring in a postmenopausal woman on hormone replacement therapy.

Pyogenic granuloma is a benign nodular lesion occurring most commonly on the gingiva of females during periods of elevated sex hormones such as puberty and pregnancy. Possible molecular mechanisms responsible for the appearance of pyogenic granuloma in this demographic have been suggested. Increased incidence of pyogenic granuloma in post menopausal women on hormone replacement therapy has not been reported. A 49-year-old woman with preexisting titanium implant placement in the left posterior mandible presented with complaint of food impaction and slight discomfort associated with the implant.

[Caruncular site of pyogenic granuloma. Apropos of an anatomo-clinical case].

A clinico-pathologic case of a pyogenic granuloma is reported in a 34-year-old male patient. Clinically, a nodular painless reddish tumour with a fibrinous membrane covered top, developed at the right caruncle. After surgical excision, the histopathological study established the diagnosis of a pyogenic granuloma, partially covered by a conjunctival epithelium, and a fibrinous membrane at its top.
