Relationship of early weaning and non-nutritive sucking habits with facial development.

INTRODUCTION: Systemic racism perpetuates health disparities and negatively impacts health care delivery and patient outcomes. Racism and bias can affect every aspect of clinical care, including history-taking, physical examination, laboratory interpretation, note-writing, oral presentation, and decision-making. Medical students must learn racism- and bias-mitigation skills early in their professional development to provide high-quality, equitable care. METHODS: In November 2021, senior medical students and faculty with expertise in promoting health equity and justice in medicine designed and

Effects of Adolescents' Lifestyle Habits and Body Composition on Bone Mineral Density.

The incidence of osteoporosis is increasing as the population ages, as is the need to manage and prevent it. Adolescence is the period when the fastest development of bone mass takes place. Increasing adolescents' maximum bone mass and avoiding the risk factors for its loss are effective for preventing osteoporosis. This study investigated the factors influencing adolescents' bone mineral density (BMD). The participants were 126 middle- and high-school students from Gangwon-do; 47.6% (n = 60) were male, with an average age of 15 (range 12-18) years of age. It was found that age, carbonated bev

Food Habits of Older Australians Living Alone in the Australian Capital Territory.

The link between adequate nutrition and quality of life for older persons is well established. With the proportion of older adults increasing, policy regarding support and care for the ageing has shifted emphasis to keeping older adults in their homes for as long as possible. Risk of malnutrition is an issue of importance for this population and, while this risk is well researched within the hospital setting, it is still relatively under-researched within the community-dwelling elderly, particularly with respect to the lived experience. This qualitative study (underpinned by interpretative phe

Bathing Habits in Emergency Department Patients with Cellulitis or Abscess Versus Controls.

OBJECTIVE: Cellulitis is a leading cause of emergency department (ED) visits, with more than 200 cases per 100,000 people per year. Although many risk factors have been identified, including edema, skin breakdown, and penetrance of the skin, there are few data available on whether personal hygiene habits (bathing and clean clothes) are associated with increased risk for soft tissue infection. Studies looking at chlorhexidine baths in the intensive care unit to prevent soft tissue infections have shown conflicting and limited efficacy. Our objective was to determine whether poor personal hygien…
