Hepatitis C: improving the quality of screening in a community hospital by implementing an electronic medical record intervention.

Both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) have recommended that adults born between the years of 1945-1965 should receive one-time testing for Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). Total parenteral nutrition is associated with worse hospital outcomes among elderly diabetic patients: a propensity score matched analysis on discharge records.

BACKGROUND: Recent trials and reviews have raised question about the safety of total parenteral nutrition (TPN), due to the increased rate of TPN related complications. Diabetic patients are vulnerable to hyperglycaemia, and poor studies have investigated hospital out-comes of diabetic patients requiring TPN. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of in-hospital mortality, prolonged length of stay and transfer to long-term care facilities among diabetic patients with TPN. METHODS: The study considered all hospital admissions of diabetic patients over 65 years of age performed b

A Retrospective Cohort Study on Human Cystic Echinococcosis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province (Pakistan) Based on 16 Years of Hospital Discharge Records.

Human cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a worldwide-distributed parasitic zoonotic disease, which represents a threat for both human and animals. The current study aimed at estimating the prevalence of human CE in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province of Pakistan. Clinical records from four major hospitals in this region were reviewed for CE human cases during the period of 2006-2021. Out of 251 (0.00071%) CE patients identified during the considered period, 142 (56.6%) were females, and 109 (43.4%) were males. The highest number of CE cases was recorded in the 21-30 (27.9%) age group, followed by 31-

Prediction of Prolonged Length of Hospital Stay After Cancer Surgery Using Machine Learning on Electronic Health Records: Retrospective Cross-sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative length of stay is a key indicator in the management of medical resources and an indirect predictor of the incidence of surgical complications and the degree of recovery of the patient after cancer surgery. Recently, machine learning has been used to predict complex medical outcomes, such as prolonged length of hospital stay, using extensive medical information. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to develop a prediction model for prolonged length of stay after cancer surgery using a machine learning approach. METHODS: In our retrospective study, electronic he
