Molecular Mechanisms of Resistance to Ceftazidime/Avibactam in Clinical Isolates of Enterobacterales and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Latin American Hospitals.

Ceftazidime-avibactam (CZA) is the combination of a third-generation cephalosporin and a new non-β-lactam β-lactamase inhibitor capable of inactivating class A, C, and some D β-lactamases. From a collection of 2,727 clinical isolates of Enterobacterales (n = 2,235) and P. aeruginosa (n = 492) that were collected between 2016 and 2017 from five Latin American countries, we investigated the molecular resistance mechanisms to CZA of 127 (18/2,235 [0.8%] Enterobacterales and 109/492 [22.1%] P. aeruginosa). First, by qPCR for the presence of genes encoding KPC, NDM, VIM, IMP, OXA-48-like, and SPM-1

Clonal evolution and antimicrobial resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii isolates from Korean hospitals over the last decade.

The wide-spread of drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii is a global health problem. This study investigated the clonal distribution and antimicrobial resistance of 167 A. baumannii isolates from two Korean university hospitals from 2009 to 2019 by analyzing the sequence types (STs), antimicrobial resistance, and resistance determinants of carbapenems and aminoglycosides. Twenty STs, including 16 pre-existing STs and four unassigned STs, were identified in A. baumannii isolates using the Oxford multilocus sequence typing scheme. Two STs, ST191 (n = 77) and ST451 (n = 40), were prevalent, and

Genomic characteristics of clinical multidrug-resistant Proteus isolates from a tertiary care hospital in southwest China.

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Proteus, especially those strains producing extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL) and carbapenemases, represents a major public health concern. In the present work, we characterized 27 MDR Proteus clinical isolates, including 23 Proteus mirabilis, three Proteus terrae, and one Proteus faecis, by whole-genome analysis. Among the 27 isolates analyzed, SXT/R391 ICEs were detected in 14 strains, and the complete sequences of nine ICEs were obtained. These ICEs share a common backbone structure but also have different gene contents in hotspots and variable regions. Among t

Isolation of Morganella Morganii and Providencia Species from Clinical Samples in a Tertiary Care Hospital in North India.

INTRODUCTION: The members of the tribe Proteeae, Morganella and Providencia are being increasingly recognized as important pathogens. The spectrum of disease caused by them is wide and in reported cases, the mortality is high. Previously both of these pathogens were considered to be rare pathogens as the potential to cause nosocomial transmission and infection was not much studied. But their phenomenal evolution and increase in multidrug-resistance (MDR) strains of these pathogens are posing a major threat toward public health throughout the world. METHODS: This present study was carried out
