A case with both contact urticaria and delayed-type contact allergy to chlorhexidine is presented. A review of the literature on hypersensitivity reactions of delayed and immediate type to this compound is given.

Leukemic antigens were obtained from organs derived from lymphoblastic leukemia by extraction and immunosorption on columns containing anti-human tissue immunoglobulins. Guinea pigs were sensitized with these antigens and then challenged with the extracts from leukemic or normal organs and with leukemic, syphilitic or normal sera via intradermal route. Sixty-one subjects, preselected for mumps sensitivity, were entered into a double-blind protocol to standardize Mumps Skin Test Antigen. Four lots of mumps antigen selected on the basis of in vitro potency tests were used. Four other antigens, Histoplasmin, Dermatophytin-O, Dermatophytin, and fluid tetanus toxoid were also tested; positive reactions for these four antigens occurred in 48, 68, 25, and 43% of individuals, respectively. Histologic pictures have been conflicting in previous cases of quinidine-associated hepatitis. We report a case of reversible granulomatous hepatitis from quinidine hypersensitivity, with granuloma induction occurring within three days after readministration of quinidine. Fever, urticaria, and mild thrombocytopenia were associated clinical findings. Both light and electron microscopic study results are reported.

In a study of delayed hypersensitivity in 54 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis who were on specific treatment, 33 patients could not be sensitized to dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) although 25 of these were tuberculin (PPD) positive. The majority of the patients also had positive skin reactions to another recall antigen, streptokinase-streptodornase. To exclude a drug effect on DNCB reactivity, 40 untreated patients were studied. A proteolytic enzyme which hydrolyses hemoglobin was obtained from the supernatant fraction of homogenized Schistosoma mansoni.
