From voxel discovery to regional interaction: A multi-level interpretable framework for Alzheimer's disease diagnosis.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an irreversible neurodegenerative disorder where early diagnosis serves as the only viable window for effective intervention. While Structural MRI (sMRI) is a primary clinical tool for this purpose, manual diagnosis is heavily constrained by clinician expertise and the difficulty of visually quantifying subtle, diffuse anatomical changes. Deep learning has emerged as a powerful solution to capture these complex patterns. However, the inherent black-box opacity of current models creates a trust deficit that severely impedes their clinical adoption. Furthermore, exist

UNISELF: A unified network with instance normalization and self-ensembled lesion fusion for multiple sclerosis lesion segmentation.

Automated segmentation of multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions using multicontrast magnetic resonance (MR) images improves efficiency and reproducibility compared to manual delineation, with deep learning (DL) methods achieving state-of-the-art performance. However, these DL-based methods have yet to simultaneously optimize in-domain accuracy and out-of-domain generalization when trained on a single source with limited data, or their performance has been unsatisfactory. To fill this gap, we propose a method called UNISELF, which achieves high accuracy within a single training domain while demonstra

Development of an AI-based magnetic resonance imaging reading support program (AMP) for deep endometriosis diagnosis.

Diagnosis of endometriosis faces significant challenges including diagnostic delay and reliance on invasive procedures. Deep endometriosis (DE) poses additional difficulties in non-invasive diagnosis due to its subtle and complex imaging features. To address these challenges, we developed an AI-based MRI reading support program (AMP) designed to improve diagnostic accuracy and efficiency, with the primary endpoint of demonstrating its potential to enhance radiologists' reading sensitivity. AMP comprises the following three models: (1) a nnU-Net model for endometriotic nodular lesion (plaque) s

LatXGen: Toward Radiation-Free and Accurate Quantitative Analysis of Sagittal Spinal Alignment via Cross-Modal Radiographic View Synthesis.

Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is a complex three-dimensional spinal deformity, and accurate morphological assessment requires evaluating both coronal and sagittal alignment. While previous research has made significant progress in developing radiation-free methods for coronal plane assessment, reliable and accurate evaluation of sagittal alignment without ionizing radiation remains largely underexplored. To address this gap, we propose LatXGen, a novel generative framework that synthesizes realistic lateral spinal radiographs from posterior Red-Green-Blue and Depth (RGBD) images of unc

HSC-T: B-Ultrasound-to-Elastography Translation via Hierarchical Structural Consistency Learning for Thyroid Cancer Diagnosis.

Elastography ultrasound imaging is increasingly important in the diagnosis of thyroid cancer and other diseases, but its reliance on specialized equipment and techniques limits widespread adoption. This paper proposes a novel multimodal ultrasound diagnostic pipeline that expands the application of elastography ultrasound by translating B-ultrasound (BUS) images into elastography images (EUS). Additionally, to address the limitations of existing image-to-image translation methods, which struggle to effectively model inter-sample variations and accurately capture regional-scale structural consi

Deep Learning Models for Radiomics-Based Segmentation of Vestibular Schwannoma on Magnetic Resonance Imaging: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Precise segmentation of the vestibular schwannoma (VS) is essential to optimize therapeutic strategies and enhance outcomes. While manual segmentation is associated with considerable time consumption and interobserver variability, deep learning (DL)-based models can provide faster, more precise segmentation of VS lesions. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of the DL-based models in VS segmentation. A systematic literature search was conducted on May 8, 2025. Studies that developed DL-based models to perform VS segmentation based on the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-driven radiomic

Discrepancy-based diffusion models for lesion detection in brain MRI.

Diffusion probabilistic models (DPMs) have exhibited significant effectiveness in computer vision tasks, particularly in image generation. However, their notable performance heavily relies on labelled datasets, which limits their application in medical images due to the associated high-cost annotations. Current DPM-related methods for lesion detection in medical imaging, which can be categorized into two distinct approaches, primarily rely on image-level annotations. The first approach, based on anomaly detection, involves learning reference healthy brain representations and identifying anomal

Towards consistency in pediatric brain tumor measurements: Challenges, solutions, and the role of artificial intelligence-based segmentation.

MR imaging is central to the assessment of tumor burden and changes over time in neuro-oncology. Several response assessment guidelines have been set forth by the Response Assessment in Pediatric Neuro-Oncology (RAPNO) working groups in different tumor histologies; however, the visual delineation of tumor components using MRIs is not always straightforward, and complexities not currently addressed by these criteria can introduce inter- and intra-observer variability in manual assessments. Differentiation of non-enhancing tumors from peritumoral edema, mild enhancement from absence of enhanceme

Artificial Intelligence Applications in MR Imaging of the Hip.

Artificial intelligence (AI) can provide significant utility in the management of hip disorders by analyzing MR images. AI can automate image segmentation with success. Current models have been successfully tested in the diagnosis of osteoarthritis, femoroacetabular impingement, labral tears, developmental dysplasia of the hip, infection, osteonecrosis of the femoral head, and bone tumors. Many of these models have shown strong performances with accuracies in the range of 76% to 97%, and area under the curve of 77% to 98%. The recent trends indicate high interest and adoption of these tools in

Naïve Bayes classifier assisted automated detection of cerebral microbleeds in susceptibility-weighted imaging brain images.

Cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) in the brain are the essential indicators of critical brain disorders such as dementia and ischemic stroke. Generally, CMBs are detected manually by experts, which is an exhaustive task with limited productivity. Since CMBs have complex morphological nature, manual detection is prone to errors. This paper presents a machine learning-based automated CMB detection technique in the brain susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) scans based on statistical feature extraction and classification. The proposed method consists of three steps: (1) removal of the skull and extrac

Multi-modal neuroimaging feature fusion for diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.

BACKGROUND: Compared with single-modal neuroimages classification of AD, multi-modal classification can achieve better performance by fusing different information. Exploring synergy among various multi-modal neuroimages is contributed to identifying the pathological process of neurological disorders. However, it is still problematic to effectively exploit multi-modal information since the lack of an effective fusion method. NEW METHOD: In this paper, we propose a deep multi-modal fusion network based on the attention mechanism, which can selectively extract features from MRI and PET branches

Automated detection of cerebral microbleeds in MR images: A two-stage deep learning approach.

Cerebral Microbleeds (CMBs) are small chronic brain hemorrhages, which have been considered as diagnostic indicators for different cerebrovascular diseases including stroke, dysfunction, dementia, and cognitive impairment. However, automated detection and identification of CMBs in Magnetic Resonance (MR) images is a very challenging task due to their wide distribution throughout the brain, small sizes, and the high degree of visual similarity between CMBs and CMB mimics such as calcifications, irons, and veins. In this paper, we propose a fully automated two-stage integrated deep learning appr

Robust Multicontrast MRI Spleen Segmentation for Splenomegaly Using Multi-Atlas Segmentation.

OBJECTIVE: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an essential imaging modality in noninvasive splenomegaly diagnosis. However, it is challenging to achieve spleen volume measurement from three-dimensional MRI given the diverse structural variations of human abdomens as well as the wide variety of clinical MRI acquisition schemes. Multi-atlas segmentation (MAS) approaches have been widely used and validated to handle heterogeneous anatomical scenarios. In this paper, we propose to use MAS for clinical MRI spleen segmentation for splenomegaly. METHODS: First, an automated segmentation method usin

[Resting state functional MRI of the brain].

The article presents an introduction to studies of the brain using functional magnetic resonance imaging during rest (rsfMRI). These studies are based on the fact that the resting brain exhibits a certain level of constant background activity. These spontaneous rsfMRT activities are characterized by fluctuations of the blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) signal (typically in the low frequency part of the power spectrum < 0.1 Hz), which correlate with the local neuronal activity and can be seen as a result of neuronal coupling of monosynaptic and polysynaptic connections. The first network

Diffusion-weighted MR imaging findings in a growing problem: hepatic alveolar echinococcosis.

Hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is a rare parasitic disease which simulates slow growing malignant processes. Cross-sectional imaging techniques play important role in differentiating between AE lesions and malignant processes such as cholangiocellular carcinoma (CCC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Diffusion-weighted (DW) MRI is a non-invasive technique, which can be used for liver lesion detection and characterisation as benign or malignant in recent years. Both conventional MRI and non-contrast enhanced CT images may be insufficient the differential diagnosis in hepatic AE lesions

Gray matter volumes of pain-related brain areas are decreased in fibromyalgia syndrome.

UNLABELLED: Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic, widespread musculoskeletal pain disorder that is very prevalent in the general population (approximately 5%). Accumulating evidence suggests that FM is associated with central pain processing abnormalities, ie, central sensitization. Several previous studies of chronic pain patients, including FM, have shown gray matter atrophy of brain areas associated with sensory and affective pain processing. These findings, however, have not been confirmed in all FM studies. In this study, we investigated gray matter volumes of brain areas associated with pain-r
