A hospital based study of skeletal dysplasias was conducted over a period of 2 years in Davangere, Karnataka, in which 169 cases of skeletal dysplasias were studied. One hundred were osteochondrodysplasias and were grouped according to international classification of osteochondrodysplasias. Among the individual cases, osteogenesis imperfecta (13 cases) had the maximum representation. Several cases of rare disorders were also identified. Thirty five children with ambiguous genitalia admitted to our centre between January 1986 to December 1991, were followed up and their clinical, laboratory and management strategies were analyzed. The prevalence of two phthirapteran species, Bovicola caprae and Linognathus africanus, on 1048 goats from Dehradun (India) was 79.2% and 38% respectively. Reducing incidence of low birthweight and increasing mean birthweights are now considered seriously in the national action plans. Comparison of birthweights obtained over two decades from the representative random segments of rural and urban areas of North Arcot Ambedkar district, Tamil Nadu, India, were studied. The effect of prior injections on the pattern and severity of paralytic poliomyelitis has been examined by a retrospective analysis of case notes from an outpatient pediatric clinic in South India. Of 262 children with acute polio, 176 had received unnecessary injections < 48 h before paralysis and 12 had received diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus or provocative injections. The incidence of Perthes' disease in parts of south India was estimated by means of a hospital survey, an incidence study and a prevalence survey. As part of a series of investigations to determine the effect of sensitisation by environmental mycobacteria on the efficacy of BCG vaccination in India, this study was carried out in Ahmednagar in Maharashtra. A preliminary skin test survey showed that the rate of sensitisation with age was much lower than in Agra, the site of a previous study, and BCG vaccination scars were associated with considerable enhancement in sensitisation to Tuberculin and other reagents. Data on 66 patients with cutaneous tuberculosis seen over a period of 4 years was analysed. Males -predominated (71.6%) over females (28.4%). More than one f' patients were below the age of 10 years. Lupus vulgaris was the commonest type of disease pattern seen in 81.8% followed by scrofuloderma in 21.2%. Warty tuberculosis was the least common of all. Tuberculids seen were erythema nodosum in 3, papulonecrotic in 2, and lichen scrofulosorum in one. Face was involved most often (34.8%) followed by legs, buttocks, arms and neck.
