1. Experiments were carried out in dogs in which renal perfusion pressure was reduced 40 min before beginning expansion of the extracellular fluid space by 10% with isotonic sodium chloride solution. Sodium excretion increased up to 590% of control values in spite of the fact that the filtered load of sodium was below that of the control period and circulating mineralocorticoids were not suppressed. 2. The findings indicate that, in the dog, prior exposure of the kidney to the volume-expanded state is not a prerequisite for natriuresis to occur.

PURPOSE: A common problem during ACL reconstruction is asymmetry of proximal-distal graft diameter leading to tunnel upsizing and graft-tunnel mismatch. Compression downsizing provides a graft of uniform size, allowing easy passage into a smaller tunnel. The purpose of this study was to quantify the graft compression technique and its effects on graft biomechanics and stability. It was hypothesised that compression downsizing would significantly reduce cross-sectional area (CSA); that no significant changes in graft biomechanics would occur; graft fixation stability would be improved.

We report here a case of an alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in a 25-year-old woman. Ultrastructural examination revealed a few periodical membrane-bound crystalloids, similar to those regarded as specific for alveolar soft-part sarcoma. Our study provides evidence supporting a myogenic origin of those periodic structures, and simultaneously a myogenic origin of alveolar soft-part sarcoma.

We have measured plasma volume expansion (Evans blue and hematocrit changes) and hemodynamic responses in conscious hemorrhaged and normovolemic splenectomized sheep after a 30-min infusion of either 20 ml/kg of diaspirin cross-linked hemoglobin (DCLHb), 20 ml/kg of human albumin (Alb), or 60 ml/kg of a solution of Ringer lactate (RL).
