PURPOSE: Homonymous hemianopia (the loss of vision on the same side in each eye) impairs the ability to navigate and walk safely. We evaluated peripheral prism glasses as a low vision optical device for hemianopia in an extended wearing trial.

In order to establish cut-off limits and to distinguish isolated premature thelarche (IPT) from precocious puberty (PP), we evaluated data from 79 girls with premature thelarche, comparing basal and stimulated LH and FSH serum concentrations with those from 91 healthy girls. Sheehan syndrome (SS) or post-partum pituitary necrosis is a pituitary insufficiency secondary to excessive post-partum blood losses. SS is a very significant cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in developing countries although it is a rarity in developed countries in which obstetrical care has been improved. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the incidences of urea cycle defects (UCDs) in the patients with hyperammonemia and study their etiology, clinical and laboratory features.
METHODS: In the past 7 years, 26 cases (10.2%) of UCDs were detected from 254 patients with hyperammonemia. The etiological diagnoses were made by blood amino acids analysis, urinary organic acid analysis and blood acylcarnitine profile analysis. Three patients with citrullinemia type II were further confirmed by liver pathological analysis and gene diagnosis.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to describe the clinical, manometric, and serological characteristics of 12 patients with paraneoplastic GI motor dysfunction and to assess the contributory role of diagnostic tests.
METHODS: Twelve patients diagnosed with malignant tumors and GI motor dysfunction were identified at the Mayo Clinic from 1985 to 1996.
