Catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome complicated with multiple infections: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome (CAPS) is a rare and life-threatening manifestation of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), which is frequently later diagnosed with high mortality. CASE REPORT: A 54-year-old woman with a history of livedo reticularis presented with fever for four days, hematuria for two days, and impaired consciousness and petechiae for one day. Laboratory tests indicated thrombocytopenia, anemia, elevated indirect bilirubin and lactate dehydrogenase levels, as well as elevated free hemoglobin, isolated C3d positivity on direct antiglobulin test, and positive l…

Cutaneous manifestations of antiphospholipid syndrome.

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an acquired thrombophilic disorder in which autoantibodies are produced against a variety of phospholipids and phospholipid-binding proteins. The purpose of this article is to review cutaneous findings in patients with APS diagnosis. An overview regarding prevalence, description, pathogenesis and histopathology, are described for cutaneous manifestations of APS.

Superficial Siderosis and Microbleed Restricted in Cortex Might Be Correlated to Atrophy and Cognitive Decline in Sneddon's Syndrome.

Objective: Sneddon's syndrome is a rare non-inflammatory arteriopathy affecting small and medium-sized arteries, characterized by a generalized livedo reticularis and recurrent transient ischemic attack or ischemic stroke. Hemorrhagic stroke was reported in limited cases, but microbleeds and superficial siderosis were rarely issued. We aimed to investigate the hemorrhagic imaging features of Sneddon's syndrome and explore the possible mechanism and clinical relevance. Methods: Clinical data and cerebral MR imaging including T2* sequence of seven consecutive patients with Sneddon's syndrome wer…

The management of livedoid vasculopathy focused on direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs): four case reports successfully treated with rivaroxaban.

Livedoid vasculopathy (LV) is a thrombotic skin disease characterized by episodic painful ulcerations of the distal aspects of the legs. Its healing process typically leaves small porcelain-white scars called atrophie blanche as a result of the occlusion of cutaneous microcirculation. The main goals of the treatment are pain management and the prevention of ulceration and of progressive scarring in the malleolar area. The therapeutic management is still a challenge, however, and most treatments were based on anecdotal off-label protocols. Over such context, direct oral anticoagulants (DOACS) a
