Burkitt's lymphoma, characterized by jaw and abdominal tumors, is the most common early childhood malignancy in Central Africa and well-known in the United States, with only sporadic reports coming from other countries. Considered to be the fastest growing tumor in man, it is thought to be of viral etiology with warm, humid climate and malaria regarded as co-factors. This is the first case of Burkitt's lymphoma reported from Greece.

Vascular neoplasms are a complex group of tumours, which can be benign, malignant, or reactive. Haemangioendothelioma is a vascular neoplasm of intermediate grade which is a borderline neoplasm. We present a case of 67-year-old male with a swelling in the left lower jaw of 1 year duration. Based on clinical, radiological, and histopathological findings, a diagnosis of haemangioendothelioma was made. The various vascular neoplasms with emphasis on haemangioendothelioma are discussed in detail.

The osteochondroma is the most common benign bone tumor that occasionally appears in the oral cavity. An osteochondroma of the coronoid process can cause limited mouth opening, and as it grows, facial deformity. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice; recurrence has not been reported. Occurrence and treatment is described for a 26-year-old woman.

Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of intraoral approach combined with submandibular minor-incision for simultaneous mandibular resection and precise reconstruction using vascularized iliac bone-muscle flap in patients with benign mandibular lesions. Methods: From January 2023 to January 2026, 19 patients with benign mandibular lesions were enrolled. The cohort comprised 8 males and 11 females, aged 15 to 75 years (mean 46.5 years). Pathological diagnoses included ameloblastoma (n=13), recurrent odontogenic keratocyst (n=2), sclerosing osteomyelitis of the jaw (n=2), giant cell le

Keratocystic odontogenic tumor is characterized by benign intraosseous neoplasm of odontogenic origin with high recurrence rates. Conservative or aggressive management has been suggested a method of treatment. Conservative approaches have some advantages in that they avoid adverse effects on the development of involved teeth and the jaw when the patient is young, although aggressive methods, including surgical resection, can be recommended considering the nature of the neoplasm. Here we report a case of a 7-year-old patient with a recurrent keratocystic odontogenic tumor treated by marsupializ

After an anatomical study of the osteo-septo-cutaneous fibular flap, we reported 4 reconstructions of segmental mandible defects by this procedure, published in 1989 by D. Hidalgo. 2 patients presented mandibular defects associated with intraoral soft- tissue loss, following resection for epidermoid carcinoma with pre or post-operative radiation. The third patient had a multirecurrent ameloblastoma associated with extraoral soft-tissue extension. The fourth patient presented a complex loss of soft tissue and mandible following a war injury. The flaps survived in all patients. The osteo-septo-c

PURPOSE: The use of a vascularized free fibula graft (FFF) for the reconstruction of a mandible in a child with a mandibular tumor is infrequent. The purpose of this study is to report our protocol for resection of mandibular jaw tumors and immediate reconstruction using FFF in pediatric patients.
METHODS: This was a retrospective case series of children with a mandibular tumor, which was resected and immediately reconstructed with FFF. All patients were treated via the same staged protocol: 1) presurgical digital planning, 2) surgical intervention (resection and immediate reconstruction), 3)

The management of oral malignancy necessitates a comprehensive approach focusing on disease eradication and patient quality of life. Surgery remains pivotal, although extensive resection can lead to aesthetic and functional challenges. Reconstruction, often with osteocutaneous radial forearm free flaps (OCRFFF), is crucial for restoring form and function. Prophylactic plating aims to prevent donor site complications, although plate selection is critical. Despite OCRFFF's efficacy in anterior mandible reconstruction, concerns persist regarding donor site morbidity and adequacy for subsequent de

BACKGROUND: Segmental bone defects of the mandible result in the complete loss of the affected region. We had incorporated the pressure-reducing device (PRD) designs into the customized mandible prostheses (CMP) and conducted a clinical trial to evaluate this approach.
METHODS: Seven patients were enrolled in this study. We examined the association among the history of radiotherapy, the number of CMP regions, the number of chin regions involved, and CMP exposure.
RESULTS: We included five men and two women with an average age of 55 years. We excised tumors with an average weight of 147.8 g a

In cases where oral cancer spreads toward the maxillary tubercle, surgery may extend to the pterygopalatine fossa. There are 2 main extraoral approaches: anterior and lateral. Previously, we introduced a modified lateral approach with a mouth corner incision from the lower lip, that preserves the mental and marginal mandibular nerves. Now, we present a further modification that allows safer preservation of the peripheral branches of the marginal mandibular nerve around the mouth. The procedure has 2 key points. The first is to follow the course of the marginal mandibular nerve from the submand

The authors proposed here a retrospective analysis of a surgical procedure they performed for long time. It allows to put into questions some established principles, to find some unkwown datas which could be important to predict complications. It is also interesting to discuss about the use of indication and choice of the flaps along years of reconstructive surgery history in the way to improve protocoles and management of those large reconstruction. During ten years in one maxillofacial surgery departement, more than 200 bone free flaps (essentially fibula and iliac crest) have been used for

BACKGROUND: Osteochondroma is a benign bone tumor that can occur in both the mesenchymal and craniofacial bones. However, craniofacial osteochondromas are extremely rare, because the mandible develops by intramembranous ossification rather than by endochondral ossification.
CASE PRESENTATION: The most common site of craniofacial osteochondroma is the mandibular condyle, followed by the coronoid process. In the present study, we have described the case of a 64-year-old Japanese man with an unusually large osteochondroma located on the internal angle of the mandibular body. Clinical, radiologic

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to describe a revised approach for mandibular reconstruction with vascularized iliac crest flap using virtual surgical planning and surgical navigation.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Preoperative maxillofacial and iliac non-contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) scans were acquired, and CT data were imported into ProPlan CMF software (Materialise, Leuven, Belgium). We performed virtual mandibulectomy and superimposed the 3-dimensional iliac image on the mandibular defect. The surgeon shaped the iliac flap according to virtual parameters and the stereomodel.

BACKGROUND: Ameloblastomas are rarely found in pregnant women, with only two cases reported in the scientific literature. We report the first case of ameloblastoma in a pregnant woman in Brazil.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 27-year-old white woman, 12-weeks pregnant, presented with a large mass in her right posterior mandible. Panoramic radiography revealed a lesion involving her mandibular right first molar with displacement of her mandibular right third molar and impairment of the mandibular bone base. The results of an incisional biopsy led to a diagnosis of acanthomatous ameloblastoma. We fixed E
