The aim of this study is to measure the alterations in the trace levels of serum copper (Cu), selenium (Se), and manganese (Mn) in forestry workers testing immunoglobulin G (IgG)-positive for Brucella, Borrelia, and Rickettsia. The study was conducted on a sample of 758 subjects (560 male and 198 female). All the subjects underwent medical examinations, which investigated particularly the presence of clinical signs compatible with zoonoses, and routine blood tests from venous blood sample, which tested previous immunisation versus cited microorganisms and serum concentration of Cu, Se, and Mn.

A massive increase in gold mining in the Amazon region of Brazil has led to an enormous discharge of metallic mercury into the aquatic ecosystem. To investigate the dispersion, total and inorganic mercury concentrations were measured in water, fish and animal tissues, and in blood, urine and hair from members of the local populations. Molten metal burns have received relatively little attention in the surgical literature. We performed a retrospective chart review of 150 patients who sustained molten metal burns between 1972 and 1997. The injuries all occurred in male foundry workers, most commonly from molten aluminum (60%). The typical accident was that of a splatter spill, creating a full-thickness burn. The mean burn size was 2.3 per cent of the body surface area (range, 0.25-25%). A study was carried out in 3 copper alloy industries: a foundry for scrap of various origin producing brass and bronze alloys (foundry A) and 2 foundries that used these same alloys (foundries B and C). In this work, we demonstrate chemiresistive volatile organic compound (VOC) sensors prepared by drop-cast assembly of layered tin monoxide mesoflowers (SnO-MFs) on additively produced laser-induced graphene-like carbon (LIG). The SnO-MFs were synthesized below 100 °C at ambient pressure and offer a low fabrication energy alternative route to typical furnace-prepared metal-oxide materials. Thallium is a highly toxic cumulative poison in humans and animals. The use of the metal as a component in ceramic superconductor material (CSM) raised concern about the health risk of CSM to children accidentally swallowing some of the CSM or to occupationally-exposed workers in the electronics industry. This study examined the biological availability of CSM by quantifying the thallium content in organs, blood and fecal matter of Sprague-Dawley rats after a single acute oral exposure to CSM and compares these values to similar thallium measurements from identical exposure to thallium sulfate.
