In an attempt to elucidate the pathophysiological mechanisms of gastric anaphylactic ulcer we measured tritiated thymidine incorporation in gastric cells, their mitotic rate and the degranulation of mast cells in the preulcerous phase. The results showed that there is a highly significant increase in cell turnover and mast cell degranulation in the mucosa of sensitized animals. An antigen in homogenates of adult Schistosoma mansoni worms grown in mice, and immunoprecipitated by polyspecific rabbit antiserum, has been identified as contrapsin, a mouse serine protease inhibitor (serpin). A colony of Onychomys torridus was evaluated for the prevalence of infectious, parasitic and congenital diseases. Multiple limb defects including brachydactyly, syndactyly, and hemimelia were observed in offspring from the colony. The colony was parasitized by Ornithonyssus bacoti (tropical rat mites) on 2 occasions. No infectious diseases were detected. Normal haematologic values were determined in healthy adult animals.

Male rats of the Long-Evans strain were divided into two equal groups of nine each and given either 7.0 mg/kg trimethyltin (TMT) or 0.9% saline by intragastric gavage. A survey was conducted to determine the distribution and prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii and Babesia microti infections in small mammals captured in Gyeonggi and Gangwon Provinces, Republic of Korea (ROK).
