The Role of Vimentin in Human Corneal Fibroblast Spreading and Myofibroblast Transformation.

Vimentin has been reported to play diverse roles in cell processes such as spreading, migration, cell-matrix adhesion, and fibrotic transfor … ed with myofibroblast transformation of cancer-associated fibroblasts, is also expressed by corneal myofibroblasts. Interestingly, proteins associated with LRRC15 in other cell types, such as collagen, fibronectin, β1 integrin and α11 integrin, were also upregulated. Overall, our data show that vimentin impacts both corneal fibroblast spreading and myofibroblast …

Surgically challenging inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor: A rare neoplasm of lung.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is considered one of the rarest benign tumors constituting 0.7% of all lung neoplasms. It was first described in 1939. We report a case of a 10-year-old child who presented with recurrent cough and fever. Chest radiography and computed tomography demonstrated complete involvement of right lung by the tumor. The tumor along with the affected lung was meticulously dissected from the surrounding structures and was delivered outside. The histopathology of the specimen revealed it to be inflammatory fibroblastoma.

Asthma Symptoms Mimicking Myofibroblastic Tracheal Tumor in Pediatric Diagnosis.

Tracheal tumors in pediatric patients are rare, accounting for 2% of all airway abnormalities and 0.2% of all pediatric tumors. Diagnosis is often delayed due to the heterogeneity of presenting symptoms, such as stridor and wheezing, which are frequently misattributed to other conditions. We report the case of a previously healthy nine-year-old male who was diagnosed with an inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) following five months of persistent airway symptoms, including cough, biphasic stridor, wheezing, and dyspnea. Despite evaluation by multiple physicians and treatment for presumed a

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the bladder turn malignant: A case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) of the bladder is a rare sight, which can be distinguished by the proliferation of spindle cells and the presence of a persistent chronic inflammatory infiltrate. IMT is usually benign, but in a few cases it has a tendency for malignant transformation and metastases. CASE PRESENTATIONS: A 30-year-old male with a history of recurrent hematuria. His initial symptoms was unfrequent painless hematuria. Abdomen multislice computerized tomography (MSCT) with contrast shows an enhancing solid mass with necrotized center measuring

Low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma of the mandible: A rare tumour of childhood.

Low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma is a rare and indolent tumour of soft tissue. This tumour is relatively common in the head and neck region followed by extremities. Primary low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma of the mandible is very rarely reported and the occurrence of this tumour in a child is very unusual. A 7-year-old male child presented with a swelling in right angle of mandible. X-ray and computed tomography scan showed a lytic lesion. The lesion was excised and the tissue was sent for histopathological evaluation, which revealed a cellular spindle cell neoplasm arranged in fascicles. Th

[A Case of Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of The Bladder Treated with Partial Cystectomy].

A 60-year-old woman with extensive hematuria visited our hospital. Cystoscopy revealed a tumor with an edematous surface on the left lateral wall of the urinary bladder. To diagnose the tumor, we performed a transurethral resection of the bladder tumor. Pathological examination suggested leiomyoma. Four weeks after the transurethral resection, magnetic resonance imaging revealed an increase in the bladder tumor. She received partial cystectomy. Pathological analysis revealed an inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor. No recurrence was observed 9 months after the initial operation.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor presenting as ileocolic intussusception: A case report.

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: The report urges considering rare neoplastic tumor, like IMT, in intussusception cases and underscores the vital role of comprehensive and swift diagnosis in influencing treatment choices and patient results. ABSTRACT: We present a case of a 36-year-old male who presented with abdominal pain and vomiting. Inflammatory markers were elevated in routine investigations, while other laboratory parameters were within normal limits. Ultrasound imaging revealed a target lesion, which required further evaluation with a CT scan and confirmed ileocolic intussusception. An explorato

Infarction of Paratesticular Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor Mimicking Testicular Torsion.

This report describes a 14-year-old male with a rare paratesticular inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor that presented atypically with acute unilateral scrotal pain and swelling. This presentation, which raised suspicion for testicular torsion, contrasts with the typical presentation of a slow-growing scrotal mass. Scrotal exploration revealed an infarcted right testis, demonstrating this locally aggressive tumor can undergo vascular invasion and occlude testicular blood supply. Thus, inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor should be considered in the differential diagnosis when evaluating patients

Endobronchial Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor in a 3-Year-Old Child.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a mesenchymal tumor that can occur at any age. However, it is primarily seen in children, with the most common site being in the lung parenchyma, usually present with rare endobronchial lesions. This case reports the incidence in a 3-year-old girl diagnosed with pericardiac pneumonia treated with antibiotics with no clinical improvement. A chest computed tomography (CT) scan identified a 1.5-cm lesion in the left main bronchus. Bronchoscopy revealed complete obstruction of the left main stem bronchus. A left posterolateral thoracotomy was performed.

Mesenchymal Tumors of the Breast: Fibroblastic/Myofibroblastic Lesions and Other Lesions.

Mesenchymal breast tumors are a rare and diverse group of tumors that present some of the most challenging cases for multidisciplinary breast cancer teams. As a result of overlapping morphologies and a lack of large-scale studies on these tumors, practices are often heterogeneous and slow to evolve. Herein, we present a non-systematic review that focuses on progress, or lack thereof, in the field of mesenchymal breast tumors. We focus on tumors originating from fibroblastic/myofibroblastic cells and tumors originating from less common cellular origins (smooth muscle, neural tissue, adipose tis

Myofibroblast YAP/TAZ activation is a key step in organ fibrogenesis.

Fibrotic diseases account for nearly half of all deaths in the developed world. Despite its importance, the pathogenesis of fibrosis remains poorly understood. Recently, the two mechanosensitive transcription cofactors YAP and TAZ have emerged as important profibrotic regulators in multiple murine tissues. Despite this growing recognition, a number of important questions remain unanswered, including which cell types require YAP/TAZ activation for fibrosis to occur and the time course of this activation. Here, we present a detailed analysis of the role that myofibroblast YAP and TAZ play in org

Delivery of sorafenib by myofibroblast-targeted nanoparticles for the treatment of renal fibrosis.

Fibrosis is an excessive accumulation of the extracellular matrix within solid organs in response to injury and a common pathway that leads functional failure. No clinically approved agent is available to reverse or even prevent this process. Herein, we report a nanotechnology-based approach that utilizes a drug carrier to deliver a therapeutic cargo specifically to fibrotic kidneys, thereby improving the antifibrotic effect of the drug and reducing systemic toxicity. We first adopted in vitro-in vivo combinatorial phage display technology to identify peptide ligands that target myofibroblasts…

UUO induces lung fibrosis with macrophage-myofibroblast transition in rats.

Progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) to uremia is often accompanied by varying degrees of lung damage and this is also an important cause of death. Although there are many studies on the mechanism of lung injury, it is not clearly understood. Inflammatory macrophages may associated with fibrosis in the lungs. Here, we investigated the role of macrophage-myofibroblast transition (MMT) in lung fibrosis with unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) rats. We found that cells undergoing MMT accounted for an important part of the myofibroblast population, and correlated with lung fibrosis, MMT c

Engrailed 1 coordinates cytoskeletal reorganization to induce myofibroblast differentiation.

Transforming growth factor-β (TGFβ) is a key mediator of fibroblast activation in fibrotic diseases, including systemic sclerosis. Here we show that Engrailed 1 (EN1) is reexpressed in multiple fibroblast subpopulations in the skin of SSc patients. We characterize EN1 as a molecular amplifier of TGFβ signaling in myofibroblast differentiation: TGFβ induces EN1 expression in a SMAD3-dependent manner, and in turn, EN1 mediates the profibrotic effects of TGFβ. RNA sequencing demonstrates that EN1 induces a profibrotic gene expression profile functionally related to cytoskeleton organization and R

Laryngeal Myofibroblastic Tumor: A New Therapeutic Approach. A Case Report.

Myofibroblastic tumors are rare lesions which can affect any part of the body. Although benign, their mass effect causes symptoms that can become life-threatening. Supraglottic laryngeal involvement is extremely rare, with only 4 cases described in the English literature. Because the pathophysiology is unknown and the incidence is so low, there is no standardized therapeutic management, although for laryngeal tumors surgery has traditionally been the preferred initial option. Another less common option is intravenous and oral corticosteroid therapy, but this is usually reserved for myofibrobla
