BACKGROUND: Surgical wounds in cancer patients have a relatively high dehiscence rate. Although colon cancer resections are performed so as to include macroscopically non-involved tissues, some cancer cells can be present in the line of transection. The local healing process may facilitate proliferation of these localized cancer cells and the high cytokine concentration within the healing wound may also attract cancer cells from distant sites to migrate into the wound area. The growing tumor cells may then stretch the wound, hampering its contraction process.

We herein report a patient with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis (LC) in long-term remission from breast cancer, co-existing with a posterior fossa epidermoid and an increase in the serum CA19-9 level which complicated the diagnosis. Renal cysts are frequently found in adults older than 50 years of age. Bosniak type III and IV cysts are commonly associated with malignancy, but most Bosniak I and II lesions are benign, and the optimal management has not been clearly defined. Although computed tomography and ultrasound examinations have improved diagnostic accuracy, some masses will remain indeterminate and require more invasive evaluation. We report a patient with a Bosniak type II renal cyst associated with malignant B-cell lymphoma in the cyst wall diagnosed after laparoscopic renal exploration.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Because of a potential risk of needle tract seeding, the use of ultrasound (US)-guided biopsy for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is controversial. This study was aimed at determining the usefulness, accuracy and safety of this technique as well as the incidence of needle tract seeding.
METHODS: From 1986 to 1996, 137 patients who underwent resection or transplantation for suspected HCC had US-guided biopsy before surgery. The analysis of the resected liver was compared to the results of biopsy. Patients were assessed with a mean follow up of 38 months.

This paper reports a rare case of rectosigmoid colon carcinoma metastasizing to anal fistula. The patient is a 57-year old man with a 7-year history of a fistula in ano. Colonoscopy revealed a rectosigmoid carcinoma. He underwent high-anterior resection. Two years and 3 months later, a subcutaneous tumor was found at the external opening of fistula. A case of dumbbell nasal and intracerebral olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB) related to possible seeding through an "olfactory ventricle" in the olfactory bulb and nerve is reported. This anatomic variant was recognized at operation for the first time: it consists of a hollow cavity within the olfactory bulb and nerve which may be connected to the subventricular zone of the frontal horn of the lateral ventricle. AIM: To comprehensively review all known reported cases of stomal metastases after percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) to systematically identify risk factors for this complication and to develop strategies for reducing this risk.
METHODS: Reported cases were identified by computerized literature searches. Criteria for risk factors for stomal metastases included: a substantially higher relative rate of this factor in patients with stomal metastases than expected from pharyngoesophageal malignancy in general, and biologic plausibility of this phenomenon.

A case of recurrent pilocytic astrocytoma with leptomeningeal dissemination (LMD) is described. A cerebellar tumor was diagnosed in a 3-year-old boy, in whom resection was performed.
