Circadian Rhythms and Clock Genes in Reproduction: Insights From Behavior and the Female Rabbit's Brain.

Clock gene oscillations are necessary for a successful pregnancy and parturition, but little is known about their function during lactation, a period demanding from the mother multiple physiological and behavioral adaptations to fulfill the requirements of the offspring. First, we will focus on circadian rhythms and clock genes in reproductive tissues mainly in rodents. Disruption of circadian rhythms or proper rhythmic oscillations of clock genes provoke reproductive problems, as found in clock gene knockout mice. Then, we will focus mainly on the rabbit doe as this mammal nurses the young ju

Association between self-compassion and perceived stress among undergraduate nursing students.

INTRODUCTION: Undergraduate nursing students are exposed to substantial academic and clinical stressors that may adversely affect their mental health and academic performance. Although self-compassion is considered a positive psychological resource, its association with perceived stress as a cognitive appraisal process has been insufficiently examined, particularly among nursing students. Accordingly, this study aimed to examine the association between self-compassion and perceived stress among undergraduate nursing students. METHODS: A cross-sectional descriptive-correlational study was cond

Efficacy of a Standardized Process in Optimizing Appropriate Use of Progressive Care Unit Beds in a Tertiary Care Facility.

BACKGROUND: Poor patient progression from the progressive care unit (PCU) beds has been recognized as a bottleneck, limiting the hospital's ability to optimize capacity for the sickest patients. Improving nurse management on PCU admission and discharge criteria could avoid PCU bottlenecks. LOCAL PROBLEM: Our institution lacked a standard process to identify clinically appropriate patients ready for transfer out of the PCU, causing delays in vacating PCU beds. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to determine if creating a standard process to empower bedside nurses and unit nursing leaders t

Impact of case manager training on worksite accommodations in workers' compensation claimants with upper extremity disorders.

Management of the return-to-work process in claimants with work-related upper extremity disorders often poses challenges to the health care provider, claimant, and employer. Modifying workplace ergonomic risk factors as a component of the workplace accommodation process may improve return-to-work outcomes by reducing recurrent pain and discomfort. The present study is a case-control evaluation of the effects of a 2-day training program for nurse case managers that was designed to facilitate the implementation of workplace accommodations within a workers' compensation health care delivery syste

Exploring student nurses' and their link lecturers' experiences of reasonable adjustments in clinical placement.

BACKGROUND: student nurses who attend preregistration nursing programmes in the UK are assessed on their academic work and their performance in clinical placement. Some of them require reasonable adjustments to be made in order to support their learning. Although there is national guidance on making reasonable adjustments for academic work, information on this associated with clinical placement is limited. The nursing literature reports varying levels of success in facilitating reasonable adjustments in clinical placement. AIM: to explore the experiences of student nurses who require reasonab
