The antiangiogenic activity of several steroid eye drops was evaluated in a PGE-induced corneal neovascularization. Pred-Forte (1% prednisolone acetate) and Maxidex (0.1% dexamethasone) were very effective in preventing neovascularization. Medroxyprogesterone acetate at 0.1% in Tears Naturale was moderately effective and fluorometholone was less effective in blocking neovascularization. Cortisone alone was not very effective; however, the addition of heparin greatly enhanced its inhibitory effect. PGE1 induced corneal neovascularization and increased the leukocytes infiltration. The applicatio

Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) is a relatively common eye disease in the dog. The diagnosis is discussed, particularly of the early or mild case. The various types of medical treatment are described, including replacement therapy with artificial tears and ocular inserts, as well as other preparations; lacrimogenics; and other forms of medical treatment, including antibiotics, corticosteroids, mucolytics and hormones. Contraindicated drugs and agents are listed. Surgical treatments, including punctal occlusion, tarsorrhaphy, conjunctival flaps, contact lenses, superficial keratectomy, as well

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of tacrolimus ophthalmic solution on conjunctival hyperemia caused by prostaglandin analogues.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 120 patients diagnosed with bilateral primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). The enrolled patients developed symptoms of conjunctival hyperemia during the administration of travoprost ophthalmic solution. The patients were divided into two groups: 0.004% travoprost solution was administered in the control group. A combination of 0.004% travoprost solution with tacrolimus was administered in the experimental

Front-of-the-eye (FOTE) droplet-based drug delivery presents a challenging fluid dynamics phenomenon, where many patients either miss their target or blink prematurely, leading to significant drug wastage and poor bioavailability. In this study, we investigate the influence of fluid properties and impact speed on the impact-spreading process on eyeball replica substrates in the context of both drops and jets to identify optimal parameters for maximum spreading, which has implications for bioavailability. Additionally, we investigate the role of the micro-scale protective tear film by coating t

Microbial keratitis is devastating corneal morbidity with a variable spectrum of clinical manifestations depending on the infective etiology. Irrespective of the varied presentation delayed treatment can lead to severe visual impairment resulting from corneal ulceration, possible perforation, and subsequent scarring. Corticosteroids with a potent anti-inflammatory activity reduce host inflammation, thus minimizing resultant scarring while improving ocular symptoms. These potential effects of corticosteroids have been applied widely to treat various corneal diseases ranging from vernal keratoco

INTRODUCTION. The treatment of dry eye by autologous serum is a simple and inexpensive treatment option. It is particularly effective in severe forms of dry eye as well as for chemical eye injuries, and it is justified by the presence of essential tear components which are not found in preparations of artificial tears. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of autologous serum therapy in the patients with dry eye. MATERIAL AND METHODS. We monitored the effect of one-month treatment of dry eye by autologous serum (used with artificial tear preparations) in 50 rheumatology patients (23

PURPOSE: To compare the efficacy and safety of Alcaftadine 0.25%, Olopatadine hydrochloride 0.2%, and Bepotastine besilate 1.5% ophthalmic solutions in the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis.
METHODS: This is a prospective, observer-masked, comparative study of 180 patients with mild to moderate allergic conjunctivitis, randomized into three groups of 60 patients each. Each group was assigned to be treated with one of the three treatment options namely Alcaftadine 0.25%, Olopatadine hydrochloride 0.2% and Bepotastine besilate 1.5% ophthalmic solutions. Patients were followed-up at regular i…
