The semiconductor ternary compound lead chromate (PbCrO4) displays promising prospects in pigment and optoelectronic fields. However, previous studies have only focused on its application, neglecting a deep investigation into its molecular vibrational and structural characteristics, such as the influence of interlayer forces. Here, pulse laser deposition was employed for the preparation of highly oriented PbCrO4/LaAlO3 thin films. Ultra-low-frequency Raman spectroscopy revealed 16 Raman modes of PbCrO4. Meanwhile, angle-resolved polarized Raman spectroscopy, an efficient and nondestructive tec

Metal-organic compounds that feature magnetic bistability have been proposed as bits for magnetic storage, but progress has been slow. Four-coordinate cobalt(II) complexes feature high inversion barriers of the magnetic moment, but they lack magnetic bistability. Developing radical-bridged polynuclear systems is a promising strategy to encounter this; however detailed investigations of such species are scarce. We report an air-stable radical-bridged dinuclear cobalt(II) complex, studied by a combination of magnetometry and spectroscopy. Fits of the data give D = -113 cm-1 for the zero-field sp

Here, an extraordinary average ZT of 1.18 and a high peak ZT of 1.5 in Sn0.87-y-zAl0.08SbyMn0.08AgzTe compounds are reported. By increasing the configurational entropy, the band structure has been optimized markedly. The energy offset is significantly reduced, and a resonant level adjacent to the Fermi level is produced through increasing the configurational entropy, which contributes to a largely enhanced power factor over a broad temperature range. More importantly, the disorder and point defect scattering in Sn1.03-x-y-zAlxSbyMnxAgzTe material are greatly increased caused by increasing the

The decoupling of thermoelectric performance parameters to coordinately optimize power factor (PF) and figure of merit (ZT) remains a critical challenge. Aerogels are valued for their low thermal conductivity and light weight; however, the lower electrical properties also lead to poor ZT values that affect their practical use. Herein, we implement a directional assembly strategy integrating Te nanowires (Te NWs) with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) to construct a three-dimensional interwoven network. Mechanistic analysis reveals that enhanced carrier mobility and optimized phonon scatt

Composite quasi-particles with emergent functionalities in spintronic and quantum information science can be realized in correlated materials due to entangled charge, spin, orbital, and lattice degrees of freedom. Here we show that by reducing the lateral dimension of correlated antiferromagnet NiPS3 flakes to tens of nanometers and thickness to less than ten nanometers, we can switch-off the bulk spin-orbit entangled exciton in the near-infrared (1.47 eV) and activate visible-range (1.8-2.2 eV) transitions. These ultra-sharp lines (<120 μeV at 4.2 K) share the spin-correlated nature of the bu

The doped perovskite BaBiO3 exhibits a maximum superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of 34 K and was the first high-Tc oxide to be discovered, yet pivotal questions regarding the nature of both the metallic and superconducting states remain unresolved. Although it is generally thought that superconductivity in the bismuthates is of the conventional s-wave type, the pairing mechanism is still debated, with strong electron-phonon coupling and bismuth valence or bond disproportionation possibly playing a role. Here we use diffuse x-ray scattering and Monte Carlo modeling to study the local

Polymorphism (and its extended form - pseudopolymorphism) in solids is ubiquitous in mineralogy, crystallography, chemistry/biochemistry, materials science, and the pharmaceutical industries. Despite the difficulty of controlling (pseudo-)polymorphism, the realization of specific (pseudo-)polymorphic phases and associated boundary structures is an efficient route to enhance material performance for energy conversion and electromechanical applications. Here, this work applies the pseudopolymorphic phase (PP) concept to a thermoelectric copper sulfide, Cu2- x S (x ≤ 0.25), via CuBr2 doping. A pe

The twisted donor-acceptor (D-A) organic formwork with a large dihedral angle (θDA ) is usually adopted to narrow the singlet-triplet energy gap for obtaining excellent thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters. However, the dependence of overall TADF properties on θDA has not been systematically investigated to this day. Taking new designed CzBP, CzBP-1M and CzBP-2M via introducing methyl as investigated models, it is found that (i) with increasing θDA , the charge transfer component in S1 is larger than that in T1 in varying degrees, leading to non-monotonic spin-orbit couplin

Novel representative 2D materials of the Janus type family X-M-ZN2 are studied. These materials are hybrids of a transition metal dichalcogenide and a material from the MoSi2N4 family, and they were constructed and optimized from the MoSi2N4 monolayer by the substitution of SiN2 group on one side by chalcogen atoms (sulfur, selenium, or tellurium), and possibly replacing molybdenum (Mo) to tungsten (W) and/or silicon (Si) to germanium (Ge). The stability of novel materials is evaluated by calculating phonon spectra and binding energies. Mechanical, electronic, and optical characteristics are c

Although 12 other [Formula: see text] salts followed, with [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] being the most stable, the crystal structure of [Formula: see text] remains unknown. Currently, it is impossible to experimentally determine the structures of [Formula: see text] due to its marginal stability and explosive nature. The magnetotransport properties of a hybrid InSe/monolayer graphene in a SiC system are systematically studied. Compared to those of its bare graphene counterpart, in InSe/graphene, we can effectively modify the carrier density, mobility, effective mass, and electron-electron (e-e) interactions enhanced by weak disorder. We show that in bare graphene and hybrid InSe/graphene systems, the logarithmic temperature (lnT) dependence of the Hall slope R H = δR xy /δB = δρ xy /δB can be used to probe e-e interaction effects at various temperatures even when the measured resistivity does not show a ln

Photothermal effects (PTEs) have been greatly concerned with the fast development of new photothermal nanomaterials. Herein we propose a photothermal immunoassay (PTIA) by taking mycotoxins (AFB1) as an example based on the PTEs of plasmonic Cu2- xSe nanocrystals (NCs). By loading plasmonic Cu2- xSe NCs into liposomes to form photothermal soft nanoballs (ptSNBs), on which aptamer of AFB1 previously assembled, a sandwich structure of AFB1 could be formed with the aptamer on ptSNBs and capture antibody. The heat released from the ptSNBs under NIR irradiation, owing to the plasmonic photothermal

In-plane anisotropic light propagation at the nanoscale enables directional, subwavelength control, yet its behavior in low-symmetry triclinic crystals remains underexplored because accessing the full dielectric tensor is challenging. Here, we use scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy to image mid-infrared waveguide modes in triclinic ReSe2 and directly reconstruct the in-plane dielectric tensor. We reveal principal axes rotated by ∼15° relative to the crystallographic axes and ultralow-loss guided modes propagating beyond 50 μm. Our approach is broadly applicable to other spe

Single polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon molecules embedded in organic matrices are excellent narrow line width quantum emitters. Extending this host-guest setting to van der Waals materials offers the opportunity to combine the preeminent properties of molecular emitters with access to the versatility of two-dimensional heterostructures. In this work, we incorporate perylene molecules into multilayered hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) stacks and observe gigahertz-narrow zero-phonon-line transitions at cryogenic temperatures. We unambiguously verify the origins of photon emission through vibronic s

Chemically and structurally diverse two-dimensional semiconductors exhibit a broad range of excitonic and optical phenomena that have direct implications for optoelectronic functionality. We examine these materials from a first-principles many-body perspective, emphasizing the connection between microscopic excitonic structure and optoelectronic functionality. Reduced symmetry and orbital character produce polarization-selective absorption, while dimensionality, dielectric screening, and exciton fine structure govern binding energies and radiative behavior. In layered systems, interlayer elect

Intercalation within van der Waals gaps of layered materials is a powerful approach for tuning their physical properties. However, the role of self-intercalation remains largely unexplored, particularly with respect to topological states and superconductivity. Using first-principles calculations, we systematically studied the Dirac semimetal PdTe2 and its self-intercalated derivative, PdTe. We found that PdTe2 hosts a type-II bulk Dirac point, while PdTe possesses a type-I bulk Dirac point. This demonstrates that self-intercalation can fundamentally alter the character and energy position of b

Quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) metal halide perovskites have demonstrated great potential in light-emitting displays. Monoammonium cation ligands are widely employed for preparing quasi-2D perovskites. Herein, a mixed-ligand strategy combining monoammonium ligand 4-methoxyphenethylammonium hydrobromide with diammonium ligand 3,6-dioxa-1,8-octanediammonium hydrobromide (DADOBr2) is proposed for preparing blue-emissive quasi-2D perovskites. The diammonium ligand of DADOBr2 not only serves as a linker of adjacent inorganic layers to enhance the rigidity of the quasi-2D perovskite structure, but

Silicon's indirect band gap severely suppresses radiative recombination, limiting its use as an efficient light-emitting material. Although nanoscale confinement of carriers, dielectric resonators, or plasmonic structures can partially mitigate this limitation, these approaches typically require complex fabrication. Here we report a fundamentally different and scalable mechanism that enables efficient light emission directly from bulk silicon. By decorating a silicon wafer with ultrasmall (<2 nm) gold or copper particles, we observe intense luminescence spanning the visible and near-infrared.

Lead halide perovskite (LHP) nanocrystals (NCs) exhibit prolonged hot carrier (HC) cooling, which benefits photovoltaics but hinders light-emitting applications. Current strategies to modulate HC dynamics often compromise intrinsic material properties or introduce competing photophysical processes. Here, we demonstrate that long-range electronic coupling in CsPbBr3 supercrystals (SCs) efficiently accelerates HC cooling across different excitation regimes, enabling cooling dynamics approaching the prediction of the longitudinal optical phonon model. Owing to enhanced electronic density of state

Topological insulators with bulk-boundary correspondence have been widely explored in condensed-matter, photonic, and phononic systems. Two-dimensional second-order topological insulators are typically characterized by zero-dimensional boundary states localized at sharp corners. While these corner bound states have been widely explored across multiple platforms as robust signatures of second-order topology, their strong confinement to sharp corners severely limits practical applications. Here, we experimentally demonstrate control over topological boundary states in a honeycomb-lattice acousti
